Charlie Crist - RINO extraordinaire

Come time, I think I might give old Charlie the boot. I have no need for this: Crist, Palin Differ On Path For GOP ... That success, Crist said over and over, came from a new kind of Republicanism he's fighting to put into practice in Florida, and that he says the party should practice nationally. Virtually every time he spoke, Crist threw in the word "inclusiveness." Unlike other attendees, he didn't look for chances to trash Democrats, or blame the party's problems on the press. "In my administration," he said in a discussion forum, "I've appointed African-Americans that...

Coke and a smile

For 8 years, the rabid left has been calling Bush a coke-head for his past usage and that it affected his ability to perform as CiC. Obama has apparently snorted a little happy powder from time to time in his past as well and I wonder how important that is now to the same people? Watch closely as I don't hold my breath. Personal view? Couldn't care less about either. A person could have mainlined Ty-D-Bol to induce hallucinations of Merle Haggard and Barry White singing covers of Metallica for all I care so long as it's in the past....

Fear itself

For a few days, I started thinking this Obama thing might turn out better than I had expected. I watched as the term "President-Elect" became almost holy in nature as his minions (and even himself) started talking about all the miracles he was going to do within minutes of taking the office. I also started watching many people seem to realize he wasn't going to be able to deliver on all his promises. There was talk of "lowering expectations" from the Obama camp, and that put me a little more at ease. I saw two outcomes from Obama and Congress....

It is said a capitalist would sell you the rope to hang him with

Gays will vote in the Democrats that will more than happily throw them under the bus. Sucks to have your rights trampled, doesn't it? Maybe if you concentrated on not allowing the government so much power and teaching your fellow man and woman to respect those old fashioned notions of personal property and liberty then you wouldn't have to worry so much about the mind set that makes people think they can simply vote away your rights and the government complying. Personally, while I didn't vote for the stupid anti-gay amendment here in Florida, I'm not going to argue too...

The struggle to remain objective

So, my blog mama discusses the impending implosion of the far-right and how they're already turning into the far-left they so despise Hey, right wingers? You have become the people you hate. You have become everything you screamed at people for being in 2004. You are running around claiming that Obama cheated, lied and bought his way to the White House. Looking around the blogosphere and its comments I see the words slimy, corrupt, devil, Antichrist, communist, evil, Stalin, Lenin, Hitler. Now, unlike Michele, I didn't support and still do not support Barack Obama and his policies. I believe...

We propose universal civilian service for every young American

This should scare you shitless Rep. Rahm Emanuel of Illinois, President-Elect Obama's choice for chief of staff in his incoming administration, is co-author of a book, The Plan, that calls for, among other things, compulsory service for all Americans ages 18 to 25. The following excerpt is from pages 61-62 of the 2006 book: It's time for a real Patriot Act that brings out the patriot in all of us. We propose universal civilian service for every young American. Under this plan, All Americans between the ages of eighteen and twenty-five will be asked to serve their...

My latest bumper sticker is up

Liberty cannot survive in anarchy. Government is a necessary evil but one we've grown too accustomed to expanding to fill our needs. The cost of government is more than taxes, it is the very freedoms you enjoy. We must be willing to sacrifice a little to ensure we gain the most. In fact, it's a capitalistic transaction. However, there comes a point where too much government does nothing for your security and well being and in fact becomes harmful. We are well past that point already. It's time to start remembering what made America the great nation it...

An open letter to my fellow political travelers

Obama is president elect. Congratulations to him on that. While I'm sure there was plenty of voter fraud, I don't think it was enough to swing the election. Obama's nebulous message of hope and change resonated in the American psyche and they voiced their desires at the polls. Obama will be the next President of the United States. Let us not fall into the nutroots' mode of declaring him "Not my president" or "Don't Blame Me I Voted McCain". Seriously, McCain wouldn't have been much of an improvement. I disagree with Obama's positions on practically everything. Part of me despairs...

An open letter to the GOP

Now do you get it? You will not win by moving left. Sorry, the Democrats and progressives have a monopoly on that segment and you're not going to win them over. Those who support liberty and freedom are not going to be excited about supporting you if you espouse the same garbage your competitor is. Yes, it is unfortunate that a large swath of Americans are wooed by the thought of government mandated fairness and wealth redistribution. However, I truly believe an even larger swath would be move by messages of greater freedom, something I used to think you guys...

Bob Smith does not exist at this address

But he's registered to vote (and just guess his party!) "Bob Smith does not exist at this address," Taylor said. Bob Smith is a character Taylor made up to get rid of sales calls. "The salesman would say who do we need to talk to and we'll say, well, Bob Smith." Apartment No. 2 doesn't exist, either. "There's somebody out there registering phony people who's going to commit voter fraud," Taylor said. ... Like MacManus, Taylor is concerned enough voter fraud could sway the election in Florida. "The problem is, how many Bob Smiths are there floating around right...

Just a political thought

Shouldn't all elected positions in the government be 'part time'? Especially local? I mean, how else better to have representatives who, you know, represent you than the very people who have to eke out a living just like you do under the same conditions?

Glenn echoes my sentiment

The puppy-blender speaks On the other hand, if the federal government were properly limited to its constitutional powers, there would be much less to fear, and elections would be less stressful for all concerned. Just a thought. That's not "just a thought" but in my mind the very core of what the founding fathers envisioned. When you self govern, the people in those spots are just representatives, not leaders or rulers. I'd prefer it if we were arguing over who is more like "Mr. and Mrs. America" as the face we choose to represent us all rather than which...

30 to 1, easily

Last night, taking the munchkins out for trick-or-treating, McCain signs outnumbered Obama 30 to 1. This neighborhood, and even the general area I live in, is strongly Republican. Hope and Change you really can believe in.

McCain wins Florida

If this is true, then McCain is going to take Florida. I hope it's not true and that he still takes Florida, but I only get one vote on it so I can't really pull it off myself. Amendment 2 is an anti-gay proposal (although the commercials against it never mention gays, only hetero-companions) meant to define marriage and one man and one woman only. I believe marriage is a spiritual thing but if two (or more...yeesh) people want to shack up, that's none of anyone else's business and the government should have no say in what constitutes marriage at...

I can't believe this man is running for president

McCain ain't no saint, and in fact is only a socialist-lite, but this is ridiculous.

Not that anyone's minds would be changed

But this is pretty much every reason I won't vote for Obama in a single place. It's missing my pet issue of gun control to boot. I'd like to see refutations of this, though, to see how much of it is colored by the authors' political perspective. This line, though, is funny In fact, if Obama wins on November 4th—and serves one full term in the Oval Office—the Presidency of the United States would be the longest consecutively held full-time job he has ever held without seeking another.

Friendship over politics

Tgirsch, frequent poster over at Say Uncle's place has lost a friend of his to cancer. What makes this story even more sad is that his friend was a commenter at his site, Lean Left. From the day he first showed up here, I’ve had a love/hate relationship with frequent commenter Ted. I have no idea how he found this blog, but it seemed like he came here with the sole purpose of disagreeing with pretty much everything I wrote (or so it seemed to me). In the beginning, we would get into huge, lengthy debates about all...

Finally, something funny I can laugh at

McCain buys ad-space in some video games. Of course, he's a little behind the times.

The Line is Here. No, Wait - Here. How About Here?

Florida sucks. This November we have not 1, but 6 Constitutional Amendments to vote on. Lucky us, there was originally 9 to ponder over, but we've managed to whittle it down a few. Only one actually removes power from the state government but is worded in such a way that even I had misread it and was planning on ticking off No. We've got deleting provisions that allow the Legislature to regulate private property of illegal aliens, preventing gays from being as miserable as heterosexuals, wind damage, land classification, waterfront assessment, and increasing taxes for community colleges. It surprises me...

Thank God for George Bush

Can you believe that Fumbletongue himself has lowered the price of oil so much recently? I never considered it his ability, but when oil was expensive, the lefties were screaming about how it was his fault so now I assume they're going to be giving him credit, right? Stupid people. Thinking the POTUS is actually an office with magical powers.

Thou shall not question the glory of the Obamessiah

Is this really what the left has become? So much for freedom of speech. When I disagree with others on gun issues, I do so by laying out the facts, not by digging in my opponent's past trying to find anything to smear them with. But apparently, stand up to Barack Bend Over and Spread Your Legs While I Spread Your Wealth Obama and you'll have every last bit of dirty laundry aired from liens to signed confessions from ex-girlfriends that you were a cheap tipper on dates. Instead of laying out exactly how Joe the Plumber would...

AFL-CIO mass direct mailing on Obama

The AFL-CIO has mailed 80,000 flyers to try to paint over Obama's horrific record on Second Amendment support by showing a tough guy who supposedly likes his guns and thinks Obama is the cat's meow. Personally, I'm not sure this mailer is going to have the intended effect, but that's just me

Barack Obama - Shameless Socialist

This quote by Barack Haaaaaaands Across the Water Obama is disgusting "It's not that I want to punish your success. I just want to make sure that everybody that is behind you, that they have a chance for success too." ... I think that when you spread the wealth around, it's good for everybody. Socialist. Pure, unadulterated wealth redistribution. First off, you fucksicle, success comes to those who take the risks. Hard work is generally involved, but not always. I'm successful because I busted my ass (and still do on a daily basis) to learn what I can to...

OK, I'm starting to like this guy

I may have given J.D. a little bit of a hard time in my previous post, but now that I've read a little more of him, I think he's a kindred spirit The real outrage isn't that a few percentage points are shifted one way or another in these regular popularity contests, it's that the contests have come to matter so damned much. Red and blue tribal loyalists shriek about each other's perfidy because they have conspired to intrude the state into virtually every area of human life. Having created a government so powerful that it tells them what...

Yes, I know he's not going to take them personally

J.D. Tuccille writes a post entitled President Obama won't take your guns (even if he wants to) which follows a pretty standard fallacy - mainly that Barack Häagen-Dazs Obama isn't actually going to walk into your house and take your guns, so really - no harm no foul The inevitable rise of President-for-Life Barack Obama will soon unleash his Stalinist hordes to ransack the gun cabinets of the nation and ravish Red America's newly disarmed womenfolk (and menfolk too, I guess, since Obama gets the bulk of the gay vote). That seems to be the nightmare keeping gun-rights advocates...

NRA tempts fate

Endorses McCain/Palin Not sure their perfect record is going to stay in tact here. I can understand why though, it's probably the same reason I support McCain. Not because I want to, but the other option is so God awful that I'm not left with much of a choice.

It is with a profound sense of relief

That I realize I did well by not watching the debates last night. Reaction from the 'sphere seems to be nothing new was learned, that McCain failed miserably to go on the offense, and that basically it's going to be President Obama come early next year. Again, I wouldn't care if people wouldn't put such stock in the presidency, but they do. If only the GOP hadn't chosen such a shitty candidate, I might feel compelled to help sell him, but it's hard to push someone when his biggest redeeming quality is that he's not Obama.

You know what would really be nice?

If an Obama win wasn't a big deal. I mean, he's just the president. If you're not too familiar with everything that the president is responsible for, here's Article II of the the US Constitution Article II Section 1. The executive power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America. He shall hold his office during the term of four years, and, together with the Vice President, chosen for the same term, be elected, as follows: Each state shall appoint, in such manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a number of electors,...

Palin continues to hammer home Obama - Ayers connection

At the local rally (which I wish I'd have been able to attend) The speech quickly turned fierce, as Palin repeated her criticism of Democratic candidate Barack Obama for his Chicago ties to Bill Ayers. Ayers was a founder of the violent Weather Underground group during the Vietnam War era and now is an education professor who has advised Chicago Mayor Richard Daley. Palin referred to a New York Times article that called Ayers as a domestic terrorist. "His own top advisor said they were, quote, 'certainly friendly,' " Palin told the sea of supporters dressed in red and...

Fish. Barrel. Very little ammunition required

The NRA is opening up their front against Obama and his insistence that he's pro-gun Fairfax, VA-Today the National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) expanded its advertising campaign with the release of additional commercials further detailing Sen. Barack Obama’s long anti-gun record in battleground states across the country. The NRA-PVF commercials began airing Monday in Virginia, North Carolina, Florida, Ohio, Minnesota and Michigan. You can view the commercials here at www.gunbanobama.com And David Hardy unloads with both barrels in his article Obama and the Attempt to Destroy the Second Amendment Obama is not a friend of gun owners....

Obama ignores the First Amendment

He's threatening broadcasters that want to show this video with taking away their licensing Barack Fuck the Constitution and the Bill of Rights Obama - Unfit to lead

He's got my vote!

Balls like that of a tsetse fly

Senate blocks rollback of DC gun regulations Seems like the standard line is "DC should be able to make its own laws", which would be fine and dandy if said laws weren't unconstitutional. But theirs are and a Supreme Court ruling nailed that one home. So, it's up to Congress to reel them in. Wouldn't want to decrease the amount of power the government has, now would we/

I wonder if FactCheck.org is going to do the same hack job on Obama's own site

Because this is directly from Barack Don't Call Me Shirley Obama's web site Address Gun Violence in Cities: As president, Barack Obama would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals who shouldn't have them. They support closing the gun show loophole and...

Top ten other "figures of speech" Obama considered using

But of course, he's not talking about Palin 10. You can put perfume and a fancy dress on a whore, but it's still $25 to get your rocks off9. You know what you won't get with an Obama administration? Two words - Moose Knuckles8. It's the difference between a sneaky midget and a former Mayor of Wasilla in a race - you know, one is a cunning runt7. Why I'm not running for president

Because this is EXACTLY what would be going through my mind See more funny videos at Funny or Die

How much experience is required for VP?

The answer isn't as simple as you might think. Many factors are in play, apparently. Because if you're a one term senator (and nothing else) and have pretty hair and a D after your name, it's not that important. Michael's point in spot on. The Democrats didn't seem to mind when fluffy pony boy was running for the #2 position. I don't remember there being a ton of arguments from the Lenin left-side of the isle back in 2004. Hell, I'm willing to bet a lot of the same people crying that Palin doesn't have any experience (since you can...

News from the loony bin

So, I was reading around some other (as Tam calls 'em) Lenin-Red Spectrum blogs and their frothy, two minute hate sessions regarding Palin as McCain's choice. One of the common threads seem to be about how the entire campaign is losing the wheels and that Palin will be "leaving to take care of her son" soon enough. Are these people insane AND stupid, or just insane? To think Sarah Palin would up and leave because her daughter is pregnant and that she fired the police chief for a long string of reasons, one of which happens to involve a...

What, no mention of her vulva?

Real criticism of Palin from actual things she's done that don't involve her reproductive plumbing, her sick child, or the fact that she was mayor of a small town Palin supported and signed into law a $1.5 billion tax increase on oil companies in the form of higher severance taxes. One rule of thumb is that higher taxes cause less investment. Sure enough, State Tax Notes reported (January 7): “After ACES was passed, ConocoPhillips, Alaska’s most active oil exploration company and one of the top three producers, announced it was canceling plans to build a diesel fuel refinery at the...

Just so we're clear here

I have nothing but respect for Mrs. Palin. When this is one of the first things she does as Governor Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin plans to sell her predecessor’s lavish private jet on the Web auction site eBay, grounding a plane that became a lightning rod of criticism for former Gov. Frank Murkowski. Palin said in a statement the purchase of the corporate-style jet was impractical and unwise. Her news release, issued late on Tuesday, was accompanied by a photograph of the plane and a person holding a sign that reads: “For Sale by Owner: The People of...

I really shouldn't get my hopes up

But it appears that a specific Alaskan governor has been picked up by the McCain Straight Talk Express airplane. I don't understand why this hasn't been the #1 thought out of the gate. Palin would totally DEFLATE the Obama campaign. Conservatives would show up in droves to vote for her (McCain would be an afterthought). Hospitals would be overflowing with Progressives who tie themselves in a knot trying to figure out how they can slam a woman without being a misogynist although it's a guarantee they'd do it nonetheless. Personally, I'd have preferred to see a Palin / Jindal ticket,...

Abandon hope and change all ye who enter here

You know, there didn't seem to be too much support for Barack Ha-Cha-Cha Obama at Blackwater. Oddly, those who are tasked with protecting the US, those who wish to learn how to protect themselves, and those who help service those in training don't seem to impressed by Barry. Not that anyone I talked to seemed to be overly enthusiastic about Col. Tigh either, but where they were cool on McCain, they were downright hostile with Obama. When Biden was added into the mix, everyone just laughed. I heard someone say the choice this year is between Incompetence and Incontinence. How...

"Some infringement on constitutional rights is OK"

Ready to get spitting mad? The elderly Ted increases my blood pressure a few points with this article. Seems like some petty tyrant has issued a curfew due to crime. Said tyrant doesn't think anyone has any reason to be outside at whatever time he feels they shouldn't. “Now if somebody wants to sue us, they have an option to sue, but I’m fairly certain that a judge will see it the way the way the citizens see it here,” Mayor James Valley said. “The citizens deserve peace, that some infringement on constitutional rights is OK and we have not violated anything...

Let's start a movement

Anytime someone talks about Obama, make sure you give them the sign

This casts a little pall over the Blackwater trip

Seems they had a hand in keeping Barack Let He Who is Without Sin Cast the First Vote Obama safe on his last little "I'm going to be the President of the World" tour Sen. Barack Obama has not been a fan of private police like Blackwater in war zones, and some news outlets even reported that they were spurned for his trip last week to Afghanistan and Iraq. But Whispers confirms that Blackwater did handle the Democratic presidential candidate's security in Afghanistan and helped out in Iraq. What's more, Obama was overheard saying: "Blackwater is getting a bad...

McRomney?

If this is true, you'll be able to watch what little support I have not so much evaporate as sublimate. You know what? McCain is the right's Kerry. Kerry was a shitty little politician not worthy of election to head crap bagger at the local zoo, much less POTUS, but for the left, at least he wasn't BUSH!!!!! It was the only thing they had positive to say about him. That's the only thing I can say about McCain - he's not Obama. McCain is bad on freedom of speech? Hey, he's not Obama! Not exactly solid on the...

180 degrees of faith

I happened to see the cover of Newsweek while buying groceries yesterday, and the current cover struck me as odd. It was all about Obama's faith. I seem to remember when George W. Bush's faith was ever brought up, it was as if he were some crazy fundamentalist with aspirations of creating a theocracy. Now, apparently, it's back to being a good thing. Is there anything that Barack I Can't Believe It's Not Butter Obama cannot heal?

At least cockroaches run from the light

Instead of getting the police to arrest those who try to shine it As you know, this afternoon at 3pm Central time, we're scheduled to hold our Hot Air Tour event in Nashville, during we we hope to launch a hot-air balloon and float over Al Gore's house in an attempt to expose the high cost of global warming alarmism A couple of days ago, a Gore spokeswoman ominously warned that they'd be working to block our event: ... Sure enough, just a few hours before our event was scheduled to kick off, the Nashville Parks and Recreation Department...

The 2008 election conundrum

This election year, for me, will be one of the most difficult choices I make in my voting history. Let me explain why. First off, I want Barack Barack Bo Barrack Fee Fi Fo Ferrick Obama nowhere near the white house. Not because he's black, but because the only experience he has is of the Chicago Political Machine type as well as his near-socialist agenda of universal health care, raising taxes, etc. The problem is that in order to keep Barack Zippidy-Doo-Dah Obama away from the oval office I would have to cast my vote for John McCain, the Senator...

Quote of the Day - Hopey Changey edition

From XRLQ “Then again, maybe the law of supply and demand is just another one of those failed policies of the past that the new kind of politician audaciously hopes to change.”

Heh

Insty has a funny picture. The lefties I've spoken with all agree Barack Two All Beef Patties Special Sauce Lettuce Cheese Pickles Onion on a Sesame Seed Bun Obama is horrible on gun rights (which, is kinda ok with them since guns are icky and all) but that he won't bother with banning them since he'll be too busy hoping and changing his way into Universal Welfare Healthcare. So you see, yeah, he's anti-gun but us gun nuts don't have to worry about it because the Messiah has to change water into wine first. The problem is that it won't...

There's a lot of Hope in the air today

Barack The Real Slim Shady Obama is here in Tampa to speak of Hope and Change. People have actually bugged out of work to go see the Messiah preach about how fat, over cooled, and clingy they are and they'll just cheer him on like he shits caviar and pisses Dom Pérignon at the precise serving temperature. They're not electing a politician, they're electing the fifth Beatle.

We're all losers

At work, I'm pretty much in the wilderness when it comes to politics. Most everyone around me is a flaming liberal / progressive and me being the small government, well armed kind of guy is an anathema to them. Over the past few weeks, I've gotten quite an earful on the upcoming elections and it pains me to say even the Democrats don't appear to be happy with their choices. Many of them are talking about voting McCain since Hillary! and Barrack Whatchootalkinaboutwillis Obama do not represent their views. There's the typical "If my candidate doesn't get the nod I'm...

Torn

Bill Quick depresses me with this article. It depresses me because I feel about the same. I used to say I'd rather see Hillary in office over Obama, McCain over Hillary, and Brain Eating Aliens abduct us all rather than any of them. Now, I'm not so sure. I trust McCain's judgement on 70% of things. However, I think Bill is right in that a McCain win will put us back further than what a Democrat could do in 4 years (I think it'd be a single term, really). But then again, I think McCain would appoint better Supreme Court...

It's Saturday. I'm at work

We're rolling out a new product so I had to come in at 0 Dark Thirty. Now I'm sitting here listening to two liberals argue over Hillary and Barrack Less Filling Obama and that doctored video. It's funny to hear liberals argue over this stuff. They're ripping out each other's throats. Now it's about Wright. The Obama supporter is saying he was taken out of context, the Hillary guy is saying it's accurate. But, being liberals they're both trying to assuage each others feelings and not be too argumentative. It's almost entertaining.

Dear Mrs. Obama

Don't even try to touch Breda's pie

I may not have a choice

I won't pull the lever for McCain. But I'll be damned if the weight of Obama's socialist clap trap doesn't cause my finger to punch the button by McCain's name involuntarily. Between him and his piece of shit for a wife and her "We're taking your pie", McCain is at least tolerable.

Hey, Michelle Obama

Touch my pie. I dare you you socialist piece of shit. "The truth is, in order to get things like universal health care and a revamped education system, then someone is going to have to give up a piece of their pie so that someone else can have more." The truth is you and your lackluster husband are nothing more than socialist swine who think that "from each according to his ability, to each according to his need" is a nifty slogan. Tell you what, since you haven't been an "American" very long, I'll let you in on a...

Clayton Cramer for Idaho Senate

Clayton is running against the Republican incumbent. I wish him all the luck in the world. I've thought about it myself, but the public life just isn't for me. At least in the military, you knew the enemy and they openly tried to kill you. With politics, it's a little harder to discern who's after you.

Obscene

That was the word used by a coworker to describe Exxon's profits for last year. *Big Sigh* It's amazing how other people's profits are obscene yet people will readily accept a new, higher paying job, or a raise without blinking twice. I asked this guy if he accepted his raise (as paltry as ours was this year) and he said "That's different". Different how? Each person looks out for his own self. Charity begins when you're needs have been met and you realize that it is in your best interest to help others out since one day you may need...

Political triangles

Joe has an interesting post regarding some points on the new totalitarianism that's always just on the horizon. A friend sent me this link to a video (about 45 minutes long). The synopsis is: Naomi Wolf on It not only can happen here, it is happening here. Mussolini created the blueprint (with inspiration from Lenin), Hitler elaborated on it, Stalin studied Hitler...Here's how it works (notice how many Bush & Co. is using now.):1. Invoke a terrifying internal and external enemy2. Create a gulag3. Develop a thug caste4. Set up an internal surveillance system5. Harass citizens' groups6....

Obama loves Che?

Apparently Texas Obamania involves psychotic mass murderers as something to be proud of. Now, I can't pin this directly on Obama, but just like everyone wanted to paint Ron Paul as a racist for the people that supported him, I have a sneaky feeling the same won't go for Barack.

Well, I guess I'm just going to sit out this election

No one left to vote for... Too tired of voting against. I'd prefer to see McCain in office over Obillary any day, but he's going to have to do it without my vote. I'll probably just write in Fred! for no real reason except to say I voted.

Political bumper sticker for Super Tuesday

Word on the street - Fred throws in the towel

Damn. Damn, damn, damn, damn. Well, it wasn't unexpected. Still disappointing. Ok, Ron Paul now has my full support.

Interesting bumper sticker I saw this morning

Hard to tell the political direction of this (I made this myself as an illustration) It could mean We've rolled over on Iraq, now we're going to roll over on Iran The war machine is rolling on to the next country We're done with Iraq and Iran is next Couldn't tell myself. It was the only sticker on the vehicle so there was nothing else that I could gauge the intent from. Oddly, I get about all three feelings mixed but lean more towards option A - We're going to sit by and do...

Real Nut Wants to Ban Rubber Nuts

(Cross posted at The Line Is Here) Oh, this is just classic State Del. Lionel Spruill introduced a bill Tuesday to ban displaying replicas of human genitalia on vehicles, calling it a safety issue because it could distract other drivers. Oh really? A safety issue, eh? I'm assuming Mr. Spruill has reams of documentation showing vehicular accident reports with the main cause as "Driver was hypnotized by pair of large, dangly, hot pink testicles and ended up running off the road." Right? Or maybe the real reason he wants to ban them has more to do with him believing...

Pathetic, regardless of political view

I just overheard one of the uber-lefties here at work talk about how he was trying to change his affiliation so he could vote Huckabee in the primaries. Think about it. He thinks it's more important to get someone in who they can defeat than to allow the people who truly are looking to select a candidate that matches their views to get their voices heard. He has to set up a strawman that can be demolished in order to validate his own views. And when the Huckster loses (and I would not vote for him, that's for sure) people...

And that is bad why?

Tom Coburn does something I can respect The spurt of last-minute activity often makes the final weeks of a legislative session among the most productive. The time crunch, however, also can give a single lawmaker an opportunity to run out the clock on legislation by using procedural maneuvers. Coburn, 59, said he may do just that as lawmakers try to rush bills, sometimes without reading them, because there is a lot of pressure to pass them and go home. ... I've said this before, but I'm going to say it again because it bears repeating. Thanks to Greg, my blood pressure has permanently gone up by quite a few points. Greg lent me his copy of Florida Firearms Law, Use & Ownership by Jon H. Gutmacher and I've almost finished it, but I've learned that if you want good law made, never leave it to the legislature. I am a programmer. I understand how to push buttons on a keyboard that will tell the computer to do what I want it to do. It is a major fault of programmers to...

Can we use the Brady Background check for voter registration?

Because it seems that even our enemies have a say in our elections. 8 of the 19 9/11 hijackers were registered to vote Let that sink in for a moment. The very people who wish to destroy our country and way of life are allowed to vote for people who they think will do the worst possible job. The background here is the National Voter Registration Act, commonly known as "Motor Voter," that President Bill Clinton signed into law in 1993. It required all states to offer voter registration to anyone getting a driver’s license. One simply fills...

Fred!

I like what he says, how he says it, and I get the feeling he speaks a little more from the heart than any of the other politicians running for the top job (excluding Ron Paul, who I truly believe he believes in every word that comes from his mouth). Ron Paul may be THE ONLY LIVING CREATURE THAT CAN SAVE MANKIND but right now, Fred Thompson is the only living being who would get my vote*. David E. Petzal - The Gun Nut: So now the UN wants to disarm civilians? Where was the UN when the massacres...

Fred, then Ron

I disagree with Ron Paul's stance on foreign policy and his belief that we "caused" 9/11 because of our policies but practically everything else about the guy I like. However, he has a snowball's chance in Miami at taking the office even if he were the only one running. I'm not saying he's incompetent, but most people fear the responsibility that freedom requires you take upon yourself. They'd rather Uncle Sam come by and take care of everything for them, so a candidate that espouses dismantling the government like Paul does isn't going to win. Period. However, at this point,...

Big Brother has nothing on reality

Want a gun? Sign away all your privacy New gun buyers must sign waivers releasing their mental health records to state police under a new regulation that took effect quietly on August 1. It's a response to the killings at Virginia Tech in April. Yes, I have a major issue with this. Legally I am allowed to own firearms. I have never been committed or suffered through anything that would make me a danger to society by owning a gun. But my history of panic attacks would be all the excuse some pencil pushing fuck-nozzle with a hair up...

Is it me?

Or is talking to Ron Paul supporters like getting a chain letter? Dear Friend, I am sending you this letter to let you know about Ron Paul and how he is the only man who can save America, and now, he is the only one who can save your life. I know it may sound crazy, but if you don't vote for Ron Paul, the government will track you down and fly a plane into your place of work. It's true! Post this on at least 5 blogs in the next hour and I guarantee you'll have 50,000 Ron...

My mother, the comedian

Sent an email to my mother last night. I mentioned how happy and relieved I was that the immigration amnesty bill was shot down. Her response? Oh - if the amnesty bill had been voted in - I was going to move to Mexico - then cross the border and come in as an illegal alien - would get a LOT more benefits than I do now - like free groceries, medical care, banking account without a social security number, and if I went to college - could go as an in-state student, no matter what state I chose.  ...

That's one way to make the point

Tree Hugging Sister tells Mel "I Love Amnesty" Martinez to stuff it in the best possible way imaginable. I need to write a few emails myself this weekend to these pricks. I will inform them that not only will I not be voting for anyone who supports this shit, but that I will actively support and donate to their opposition, regardless of party.

You know your campaign for president is in trouble

When even raunchy & crude T-shirt manufacturers are making fun of you. I'm sure T-Shirt Hell isn't exactly a bastion for conservative thought, either. I highly recommend that if you don't get offended too easily you peruse through their wares. And, even if you're like me and don't get offended easily, I guarantee you you'll still get offended.

Quote(s) of the Day - Fred Thompson Edition

“Al-Qaida have a 100-year plan,” Thompson said. “We have a plan until the next election.” and this little gem He told the crowd last night that, when asked why he left the Senate, he responds: “After eight years in Washington, I long for the realism and sincerity of Hollywood. That’s no joke, my friends.” Fred hasn't announced yet, but he wins, hands down against anyone else the RINOs can pull out of their nanny-state asses. Gulliani, McCain, Romney - all POS's I wouldn't bother showing up to the polls for. Tancredo and Thompson are the types of politicians...

Who's is the biggest?

Nick Anderson is a pretty big liberal cartoonist. Half of the time, his cartoons are just too lefty for me. The other half of the time, he's a riot. Today, he whacks one out of the park.

Someone tell the shrew what a shroud is

This is a riot. Senator Carolyn McCarthy wants to ban guns with barrel shrouds. The problem is, the stupid twit doesn't even know what a shroud is. In her little incompetent world, I assume she'd outlaw these things too. I mean seriously, we can't have protective covers to keep from burning our hands now, can we Carolyn?

A 'pencils cause spelling errors' type of guy

Gah. An unnamed, opinion piece in the St. Petersburg Times get's my blood boiling. But what do you expect from a leftist rag like that? Onto the fisk NRA power play stomps on safety Ahh yes, the whole "The NRA = All Gun Owners" lie. I own several death-toys firearms and am not an NRA member. Strike one. Who says the Florida Legislature doesn't look out for the working stiff? A bill (SB 2356) that so far is breezing through the Senate would stop employers from banning guns in their parking lots. Good. It's immoral that a company...

Ask and ye shall receive

From Shooting the Messenger on seeing the movie 300 Now comes the hard work. Teaching them what Molon Labe means. Rearing a new generation that would rather die than bend knee to a despot. Were I any good at photoshopping, you know, like Reuters and the AP do to make phony pictures look real, I'd feature Pelosi on a throne ala Xerc, sitting cross legged and demanding we give up our arms or die. Ok, how's this?

Contrasting politicians

So, a while back I wrote to my state representatives regarding what I considered to be a burdensome wait in receiving my Carrying Concealed Weapons permit. I wrote a fairly long letter addressing the issues and informing them that I'd like to discuss the situation. One of the politicians was Rhonda Storms (R). A few days after I sent the email, I received this Mr. Allen, Thank you for contacting Senator Storms regarding this matter.  By copy of this e-mail, I am asking Mr. Dave McInnes with the Department of Consumer Services, to investigate and respond.  His office should be in touch shortly...

John Longenecker explains why I will not vote for Giuliani

Since I honestly believe that the 2nd Amendment protects all the others, any politician who does not respect the Right to Keep and Bear Arms by default does not support the rest of the constitution. John explains in detail why Rudy is not fit to hold the office of President. A choice quote: The Second Amendment isn’t about guns or hunting anymore than the First Amendment is about typewriters Hat Tip Alphecca

Why I fear Hillary

Make no bones about it, she is a dyed-in-the-wool socialist The other day the oil companies reported the highest profits in the history of the world. I want to take those profits, and I want to put them into a strategic energy fund that will begin to fund alternative smart energy ... technologies that will begin to actually move us toward the direction of independence. I had a rant on this rather old news, but it was so laced with profanity that my readers may have thought Amanda Marcotte had started guestblogging. The short of the matter is this...

Damn

I was going to do this when I got home. Wuzzadem beat me to the punch.

Land of the free, my ass

Two things, both from David C over at War On Guns. First, this little doozy from the NY slimes U.S. Set to Begin a Vast Expansion of DNA Sampling The Justice Department is completing rules to allow the collection of DNA from most people arrested or detained by federal authorities, a vast expansion of DNA gathering that will include hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants, by far the largest group affected. The new forensic DNA sampling was authorized by Congress in a little-noticed amendment to a January 2006 renewal of the Violence Against Women Act, which provides protections and...

Quote of the day

When the government's boot is on your throat, whether it is a left boot or a right boot is of no consequence. — GARY LLOYD For my friends on both sides of the political isle.

My prediction for the new political landscape

I predict my RSS aggregator will lose 30% of its feeds as some of the right-leaning sites I read will devolve into Kos-like lunacy over their loss of power. Instead of keeping their focus on getting the Republicans to constantly think in terms or W.W.R.D? (what would Regan do?) they'll revert to the good old Clinton days and do nothing more than scandal-monger and blame-laying. And for my left leaning friends, here's a free bumpersticker

Silly liberals

I don't know what type of political points you plan on scoring by putting blackface on Anthony Hopkins. If you're not careful, he'll eat your kidneys with a side of fava beans...

Quote of the day

President Bush said that if illegal immigrants want citizenship they’d have to do three things: pay taxes, hold meaningful jobs, and learn English. Bush doesn’t meet those qualifications. PJ O’Rourke

What's going to happen

So, NK popped a nuke? Let's assume for a minute that it was an actual nuclear device (there is some doubt, but not much), now what? First, the Republicans will point out how Clinton sold them the technology failing to point out how their current president failed to correct that mistake. At the same time, Democrats will point to Bush as failing to stop them failing to point out it was their president who gave them the technology. Both sides will argue ad nauseam about how it's the other's fault. Nothing will get done. Bush & Co. will mouth a...

Good work if you can get it

Senators get paid an annual salary of $165,200. That's chump change for most of them. No wonder they're out of touch with mainstream America. I'm all for someone making as much money as they can. I'm a die hard capitalist and believe that capitalism, while not perfect, makes the most sense. Capitalism takes a human fault (greed) and turns it into a positive force. So, I bear no grudge against these people having their money. I do, however, think they are not competent enough in reality to manage the country. That much dough simply puts you out of touch with...

Nick gets it

And gets it good. I read Anderson and disagree with 80% of his cartoons. But when he’s right, he’s right.

It's almost November. Do you know who your candidates are?

I’ve been perusing Congress.org to find information on the candidates I will get the joy of pulling the lever for. Do you know who is running and what they stand for? Do you even know what districts you are in? Here’s a quick tip for all politicians – if you don’t have a website where (a) all your policies are outlined in clear, easy to read format and (b) your email address or contact page is available, you will not get my vote. Period. If you can’t manage a website you sure as hell can’t manage the keys to the government. I’m...

Both parties suck

And this comment by Looker over at Q nails why the Republicans suck worse The current version of a Republican Administration IS borrowing lots and lots of money. In fact, almost everyone here has derided them for it, and acknowledged that if this were Hollywood, we’d be giving the Oscar to the Republicans for their recent stellar performance as Democrats. Can’t we get a viable third party? One that respects our civil liberties, won’t tax us to death (and then tax the grave site), won’t make laws against “which port you can sail you dingy”, will actively (and even pro-actively) protect this country,...

Joke of the day

Cheney: Hey Ted, wanna go hunting? Kennedy: Only if I can drive.

Any way to help Jeff

Looking through my email, I see that Jeff from Protein Wisdom asked some of us to help spread the word of one of his posts, Identity Politics, Free Speech, and the Future of worldwide Liberalism, 2: a follow-up. This is a subject near and dear to his heart and wants discussion, from both sides of the aisle, so the more people he can garner, the better. I have no idea how my 7 readers will affect his hit count, but a man’s gotta try to help his brethren out. My view? I agree with most of what he says, or at least the...

Scott Adams - Giving both barrels

I’m rather surprised Scott Adams is talking politics because the second you open your mouth about ‘em, you alienate half of your audience. Coming from a guy who writes cartoons, you’d think he’d avoid controversy to keep from scaring off readers, but damn, he just doesn’t seem to care. Check out this gem – I’ve also been called out on the fact that I have not mocked liberals with the same frequency as I have mocked people who happen to be conservative. This is largely because the base requirement for being mocked for your actions is that you must have some...

Political stunt???

Seems like a bunch of Democrats have their panties in a wad about last night’s Cut & Run vote and are calling it a ‘stunt’ by the GOP. Someone said they were Shocked! Shocked I tell you! that anyone would make something this important into a political event. WTF? They’re politicians. The weather is a political event. It’s like saying you’re surprised an accountant would stoop to using math to do your taxes. I hate politicians. I really do. I’m glad the Republicans called the Dems ‘ bluff here and that we can now put behind us the dangerous notion of immediate withdrawal...

Senator Kennedy conducts a third grade math class

Important Sharp as a Marble product defect recall

Sharp as a Marble Laboratories issues recall on Limited Edition Official Hugh Hewitt GOP Cheerleader Doll! Several models of the Hugh Hewitt ‘Go Miers Go’ cheerleading dolls are being recalled due to a defective voice chip. Affected models no longer chant the proper “Miers Miers, She’s our pick!” phrase and instead scream at their owners for not supporting the president’s choice. It has also come to our attention that Mier’s withdrawal from nomination renders the doll’s amazingly lifelike “HAR-EEE-ET” rally cry obsolete. Sharp as a Marble Laboratories will be glad to refund customer’s money with the return of the defective items, or if...

A visual representation of Bush's current political popularity

Amongst conservatives, nonetheless!

Stock up on ammo, folks (Updated: Now with 75% less obscenities)

Florida town plans to use eminent domain RIVIERA BEACH, Fla., Oct. 4 (UPI) -- Officials of a poor, predominantly black Florida town plan to relocate about 6,000 residents to make room for a billion-dollar yachting and housing complex. The coastal community of Rivera Beach in Palm Beach County may use eminent domain, if necessary, to claim 400 acres of land for the project, The Washington Times reported Monday. "This is a community that's in dire need of jobs, which has a median income of less than $19,000 a year," Mayor Michael Brown said. "If we don't use this power, cities will die." Do...

So? It's not like kids know what they're pledging anyway.

So now pledging allegiance to your country is unconstitutional? OK, so I pulled a few words there to sensationalize the issue, a tactic I decry all the time. But the reason I do is going to piss off a lot of my right leaning, Christian friends. Kids reciting the pledge are mindless drones. They have no idea what they’re saying, no idea the sheer importance of what they say and what it means if they betray that sentiment. In many ways, it’s the same concept as why I have a hard time actually going to church. It’s not God that I have a...

Why politicians should be outlawed

So, I found a story about the dangers of toxins in breast milk and a commenter replied with this link Rocket fuel in breast milk (lettuce, and drinking water too) First, I just want to clarify something. While I’m appreciative of the link, it’s very misleading. It’s not rocket fuel, but a chemical that happens to be used in rocket fuel. You can’t grab a lactating woman, squeeze her breast, and power the space shuttle with the results. However, that aside, I read the article because I’m concerned with articles such as these. And reading it got my blood pressure up...

I actually kind of like my Congresscritter

My congressman is Adam Putnam. I pay close attention to his actions, and regularly check on his voting records. I do most of this proactively by signing up for email alerts and the such. I have regularly emailed him on various occasions, recently over the Kelo decision. And I always get a reply. You can see the form letter base, but it’s usually customized to my particular request. Regardless if Mr. Putnam himself is reading them all, at least I know my concerns are making their way up there. I also stay on his email listings, again as a way to...

Why I oppose John Roberts for the Supreme Court

Because I really wanted Judge Judy up there. Or Wapner, but I’m not sure he’s got much left in him.

30 seconds was too much

Wow. I get into work today, start up a new Visual Studio project, and while my POS computer takes 30 minutes to set up a new web application, I decide to peruse my RSS reader. After 30 seconds of political vitriol, I’ve had enough. Bring on the Cat Blogging!

Shower of Mud

I usually don’t get to read too much in the blogosphere over the weekends. I have to spend some time with the family. This weekend was no exception as the Mrs. had a Woman’s Retreat to go to and I had daughter duty. Had fun taking her to the zoo and she was even pleasant when we had to go do a little shopping. Mondays, I have to be very, very selective of what I read from over the weekend. This is why catchy titles and well written first paragraphs are so important for me. I have dozens upon dozens of blogs...

Today's Guest Blogger - Emperor Palpatine

Another exiting day here at Sharp as a Marble as we have an exclusive guest blogger, Emperor Palpatine from the planet Naboo. SaaM: Thank you Emperor for blogging here today. I apologize for the mix up earlier this morning. I didn't realize it would be so difficult to find a taxi at that hour Palpatine: You will pay the price for your lack of vision. SaaM: Errrr...Ok. Well, then I guess I'll let you begin. Palpatine: Good. I can feel your anger. Much like that of my new apprentice, a recent commenter to this pathetic blog of yours, Jeremt. He shows a true calling...

The New Political Party

Republicrats Face it, the only difference is who’s in power.

I Supported A War For Oil....

And all I got was $53.30 a barrel and $2.20 at the pump! Where’s the cheap oil we’re supposed to get? I mean, what good is warring for oil if the prices go up? It’s almost like the war wasn’t really for oil but that can’t be true!

Social Security and the Old Farts Who Love It

Over at Q&O, there is a post that got me thinking of something that happened the other day. This matters because Social Security and Medicare are pay-as-you-go programs. Current taxpayers pay current benefits. Future taxpayers – mainly future workers – will pay future benefits. Even if adopted, President Bush's personal accounts for Social Security would hardly alter that.Consequently, baby boomers' children and grandchildren face massive tax increases. Social Security and Medicare now equal 14 percent of wage and salary income, reports Bell. By 2030, using the trustees' various projections, that jumps to 26 percent. The implications are clear to anyone who cares...

Theocraziness - Now In Right Wingnut Flavor

A while back I penned an article I titled “Theocrazy”. During the election season, lefties were running around with their hair on fire claiming W was pushing this country into a bona fide theocracy. I responded with my article. Some excerpts. Which leads me to my main point. Which denomination shall W base the theocracy on? Baptist Methodist? Presbyterian? Seventh Day Adventist? The Holy Church of the Cross? Branch Davidians? You see, the same problem I had finding a church that suited my particular point of view (and there still isn't one for me) is the same issue you'd have with...

Damn. I Actually Got One Right!

I’m not a doctor. I don’t even play one on TV. So my knowledge on stem cells is based on what I can (a) read and (b) understand of what I read. Keep that in mind. Anyway, while I understood that stem cells had vast potential to change medicine, I found the method used to gain them was repulsive. Using harvested fetuses is, in my opinion, immoral. I always thought that there would be a better solution and that abortion culled stem cells weren’t the only way to solve the problem. Looks like I was right! In a report which was published yesterday...

Losing My (R)eligion

I've been battling with something for a while now. I really, really, really want to remove the R from my voter's registration card. I'm not a Republican, at least not in the sense of how the  GOP sees themselves. To me, the only difference between Democrats and Republicans these days are basically defense issues. Neither party stands for smaller government, neither respects your right of liberty. The Republicans want to create laws that restrict which orifice your purple helmeted love warrior can invade and the Democrats want to create laws that force you to eat organically grown tofu and require that...

Rhymes with D'OH!

I'm from the South. Born and raised in Georgia in the suburbs of Atlanta, I cultivated a southern accent throughout my upbringing. While I've managed to completely drop the accent, I still say y'all, call every soft-drink a Coke, and when I'm getting ready to do something, I'm 'fixing to'. So it's not uncommon when I mispronounce a word or two.Something that had been a wee bit confusing to me is to see people write 'Faux News' when referring to that obvious mouth piece of the White House and Chimpy McHalliburton, Fox News. Both Fox and Faux start and end...

Greenspan Touts Idea of a Consumption Tax

(this memo was sent to me from FairTax.org)Mar 3, 9:41 AM (ET)By JEANNINE AVERSAWASHINGTON (AP) - Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan on Thursday embraced the notion of overhauling the nation's tax system and said that some form of a consumption tax - such as a national sales tax - could spur greater economic growth. The Fed chief made his comments in prepared remarks to the President's Advisory Panel on Federal Tax Reform. Revamping the complex tax code is an important goal of President Bush.Greenspan pointed out the merits of a "consumption" tax, as well as the challenges of setting up such...

Mass Blogroll Exodus?

I'm seriously thinking about cutting out 80% of my political blogroll. To be honest, I've grown weary of the idiocy that masks as politics these days (from both sides). And those blogs with comments either turn into echo chambers or vitriol-pits, neither of which further my knowledge of current events. Some bloggers seem to be on a kind of high right now. Blogs are doing a fantastic job of 'watching the watchers' so to speak when it comes to the MSM, but I'm getting this feeling that many of them are starting to turn into the monsters they hate. The media has been...
