Sharp as a Marble

So, the wife and crumb-snatchers are out for the evening, and being that I'm on call I couldn't be that far away from a computer, I got to skip out on the event.

Instead of having free time, I sprayed the house for bugs, mowed the front yard (what's left of it... dammit), moved all the furniture, and cleaned some firearms. Usually, I have a bad habit of breaking down the firearm between shots and cleaning them, but oddly I hadn't cleaned the Glock in quite some time. So now, you could perform open heart surgery on the damned thing.

There was nothing to eat here, so I went to Zaxby's and had myself a Buffalo Blue salad.

While I was waiting in line, all I could smell was Hoppe's #9. If anyone who had ever used the stuff had been standing near me, it would have been a dead giveaway. Which I found kind of funny.

"Hello? 911? Yes, I think I smell a man with a gun. Yes... I said 'smell'. I can smell the... hello?? hello???"

Totally a non-issue, as criminals likely don't clean their gun, or just clean it with rags and maybe some WD40. No different than open carry. I see somebody with a gun, I look to see what he's doing. If they fail to arrouse my suspisions Its just another one of the "good guys"

Gun fearing wussies generally don't even know what Hoppes is, let alone its pleasing aroma. The only risk is if an overzealous cop smells the gun on you, then maybe you could get the friendly 4th amendment violation.

Personally I use M-pro7 as it appears to work REALLY well, and it doesn't smell like I'll burn the house down when the water heater element kicks on.

I use CLP which has a funky smell of its own.

I've started using grease on my carry gun for just this reason. I've found TW25b from mil-com works great.

Just finish up by rinsing your hands in gasoline, like my Dad used to do after working on the car, and you're all set. A dab under the nose works wonders, too.

I'm not so sure 911 would hang up on someone reporting that they smell a gun. Someone under attack? Maybe. But the threat of a possible gun?

They'd probably send the tactical response team. Just in case.

I gotsa agree with weer'd beard on this one. The bad guys don't clean their guns beyond a spritz of WD-40 and wiping it off on their jeans.

Here's a tip. Next time you spot a decent gun at a garage sale, given it a once over with your nose as well as your eyes. If you smell WD-40, you can bet it wasn't cared for. The sweet smell of Hoppe's will get my further attention.

I don't do yard sales. I never figured people would actually sell guns through them. Is it really that common?

Because there's no way I could hit them on Fridays, and I'd figure by Saturday the damned things would be gone.
