Because there was only two outlets in the room. Uncle got the one by the desk.

There was one behind the TV, one behind the desk (you could unplug the lamp and the clock radio), and one by the vanity sink, just outside of where you are now. :-)

That's why I always pack a splitter and and extension cord in my bag. Sometimes I even bring a power strip.
