Sharp as a Marble

Well, work finally ended yesterday and I was able to head down to the range to shoot the 6.8 SPC for the first time. It was everything I had hoped for.

I splurged and spent an extra $4 on a muzzle break, and was very happy I did. When you watch the video, notice how little the muzzle moves after each shot.

The recoil was practically nonexistent. While it's hard to tell from the video, it was definitely louder than .223 although it wasn't near the .308 two lanes to the left. I'm not terribly impressed with my cheap Red/Green dot scope, so I may just eventually get a handle / rear sight and just shoot open irons like I prefer.

Because the scope wasn't sighted, the first shots were low and left. Notice the spiffy 9mm hole above my target from the guys next to me (on my right). Someone thought it'd be a great idea to rent a fully automatic MP5. Nice control!
Eventually I got sighted in a bit better. Again, I'm not thrilled with my $60 red dot, but it does get me in the right area.

Here's a couple more random pictures

The last picture is of Greg, who shot the video and was a great partner to have at the range. He also took pictures so we'll have to see how his turned out. He got some "brass in the air" shots, so those should be cool. Update - Here they are!

Totally happy with the rifle. Of course, being an AR I'll have to spend a gajillion dollars on doodads, whatnots, and whatchamacallits but for now, I'm the proud owner of an evil, black rifle of death.

They let .308's shoot indoors?? You can get a nice A2 style flattop adjustable BUIS for the rear from GG&G... I like irons too.

DC, that particular range allows everything up to 50 BMG. And there's no way I can justify $100 for a BUIS. It's a little tiny chunk of metal, I can't understand why they're so friggin' expensive.

When are you going to bolt on the can opener / tweezers / toilet paper dispenser / ear hair trimmer accessories?

Just kidding, I want to shoot it!!

How far down range was the target in the video? When you shot the SL8 with the red dot it was at 82 feet.

The first shots were at 140' (it wouldn't go all the way to 150 for some reason).

Later on in the night I moved it to 100, since I could see where I was hitting better (I forgot to bring binoculars).

I think the first accessory will be a USB hub.

Its just not really an EBR until you have a couple of deadly, black, 30 round magazines full of bullets that will pierce several layers of soggy paper towels.

Live Robb shooty action - Cool!

That looks like so much fun!

The most fun I have had with my M1A so far was taking it to an indoor range, cracking off the first few shots, and watching all the heads poke out from around the back of the lane dividers. I think it got their attention.

Good to hear the 6.8 is living up to your expectations, though. Of course, the range time is going to have to offset the bench time somehow... ;)
