Remember, this is not “taking the law into your own hands”—the law has never left our possession, we just delegate its enforcement to others temporarily; and if those people are incompetent, we just take it back.
This is a point that is so lost on people that sometimes I fear we may not be able to repair this country. The law is what we, the people, make it. Being a vigilante means you go and seek out the bad guys, not that you protect your self or your community. Patrolling your streets is not vigilantism. Self-defense is not vigilantism. And the police are not "the professionals" who should be responsible for those kinds of things.
