Sharp as a Marble

If you're reading this, then the migration to the new server is spot on. Had one hell of a time getting Kerberos to work correctly on IIS but it turned out the passwords for IUSR and IWAM accounts had become un-synched. I used the information from here to fix the problem.

Please let me know you're seeing this!

Ah, wondered why it didn't work earlier.

Acronym abundance! Nice job! Feels just as comfy as the other server.

Seems to be working.

In other news, I think I will be sticking with someone-other-than-me hosting... Too much fun when it breaks, it seems.

Breda, if you only knew the irony of that statement.

The new server sounds like a Gulfstream getting ready for takeoff. I thought I'd be able to "tune out" the fans, but I can't. It's too loud and you can hear it throughout the entire house.

Gotta buy a new server. Damn.

Nope, don't see it.

Hell, Hazel, you should be able to at least hear it.

I thought the 1U with it's single fan would be quieter than the full sized monsters I have (3 Power Supplies each), but apparently the one fan blows for the entire case, making it reeeeealy loud.

i told you, just unplug the fan. who needs a stinking fan anyway?

Well, it's a PIII so it probably could handle it. I'll have to see if this fan is like my other servers though - On those, if you unplug the fan the system shuts down immediately.

The other issue though is that this fan cools everything, including the power supply. Does a damn good job of it too, just too loud.

You could get one of those inverse wave generators to put beside it. Of course that would cost more than a new server.

Actually, it turns out that I need to install the device drivers and it will shut the fan down. Apparently, without the drivers the fan will run full speed at all times. So there might be hope.

Yeah, it'll run quiet now, until on a balmy night, they'll kick into jet engine mode, and rattle you out of bed.

You could always try SpeedFan utility. You set temp thresholds, and it slow/speeds up the fans accordingly.
