Well, it's not gun free if people get shot

Despite the outlawing of handguns and clamping down on other firearms in 1997, after the massacre the previous year of 16 school children in Dunblane, the gun menace continues to escalate in the UK. Gun-related murders rose by 6 per cent to 53 in England and Wales, according to official figures for the year ending June 2007.

Emphasis mine.

Think about it. It's not like the US where you can find a gun shop every 10 miles. It takes a small act of God to be allowed to get a gun. Yet the gang members and criminals somehow still manage to do so.

Yes, their gun related murders are a fraction of ours but I'm sure that's of little consolation to those killed by knives. You see, violent crime is the problem and one of the biggest mistakes the anti-gun bigots make is that they want you to think that crimes with guns somehow are worse and deserving of special rules and regulations.

It's clear as it can be that the number of guns available has nothing to do with crime. But to admit that, the Brady Bunch and their fellow bigots would have one less leg on an already shaky foundation to stand on.

I, for one, will constantly remind everyone of this.

Didn't they recently consider making a law that said kitchen knives would have to have rounded points?

Great, let's bubble wrap the whole world and dumb everyone down to the level of a third grader just because someone might get hurt.

I do remind everybody of these failing, any chance I get.
Feel free to click my name for a myriad of entries on the UK.

And yes, they did actually make a law against knifes suited for stabbing (donnu if it passed), it's also punishable to walk around with a hammer or crowbar without a good reason.

And, as Kevin baker so astutely put it, it's a freaking island and guns STILL come in...

My grandfather was a tool and die maker. He could have turned out working firearms on any day.

There was a PBS program - or 20/20 or whatever - a few years ago showing a village in Afganistan where the blacksmiths were making copies of 1911s and AK-47s.

I have a concealed carry permit because a local cop demanded I get one! He wants some of the good guys to watch his back. Had the same reaction from the local Sheriff's officers.

I read that as "my grandfather was a tool". Heh.
