I think if I saw that, I'd tell the store clerk that he made a mistake, but to note in the future that ham is really more appropriate for Ramadan. That mistake would probably make his life a LOT more interesting :)

What about Passover lobsters?

Oh yes, much more appropriate for the after-sundown Ramadan snack. Besides, everyone knows that the traditional American Hannukah snack is a cheeseburger.Or at least it was mine. Maybe that's why I sweat during Yom Kippur?

I tried to talk an Orthodox Jewish coworker into getting a turkey ham to serve for dinner when her fiance's parents came over. She didn't think that would go over so well.Besides, she said, she was pretty sure her butcher didn't have turkey ham.Although she did admit to sneaking a piece of bacon while at a sleepover at a friend's house as a teenager. She didn't think it was all that great. Two years ago, my employer gave out grocery store gift cards for Christmas gifts to all the employees. They were imprinted with "Good for one ham" and "Merry Christmas". It was quite interesting to see our Jewish coworker be handed this as her gift.

Eh. I don't keep Kosher (more, Kosher-style coupled with not-in-the-house) but depending on how that gift card was given would change how I "took" it. That is, if the person(employer) giving it truly had no idea , then I take it in the spirit it was given. If they knew and still gave it, I'd have to wonder.

New year's Eve, '68/'69. Jewish co-worker invited me to a party at her parent's house. Her sister was making a ham and cheese sandwich. I'm Christian, but know the kosher "rules", so I cracked wise with her about the sandwich. And we probably would have gotten married, but... I was her date at her sister's wedding. The aunts kept telling her that we could set the date for any time next year. Ah well. A classy lady.

OldeForce -Some do, some don't. At my parents', you won't find any pork or cheeseburgers - but my dad loves a ham&cheese sandwich (eaten in a restaurant or somewhere else). Likewise, I like pepperoni pizza and a bacon cheeseburger (and will bring them home) but there's not a ham-steak or pork chop to be found (I've tried, and while it might be billed as "the other white meat". if it's not in pepperoni or bacon form, I'm not interested).I completely understand the original reasoning: don't eat your garbage disposal. (likewise, horse and camel are on the do-not-eat list: don't eat your transportation.)

LOL, I thought this post was about the spending bill stalled in Congress (spineless & pork) until I saw the comments.fyi, there are plenty of muslim schoolchildren who think the pepperoni on their pizza is a vegetable.
