Sharp as a Marble

Holy shit, batman. The BATF is nothing more than a clusterfuck of power hungry dipshits who's only purpose in life is to make it damn near impossible to not be a criminal.

I mean, if I want to build a silencer, I need to get permission. Then anal probed, fingerprinted (again, like they don't have my $#*& fingerprints at least twice already. Talk about "efficiency"), raked over the coals by the local constable, re-probed, and possibly fingerprinted for a fourth time, just because. Then I have to pay for the privilege to the tune of $200.

And if I buy a single, rubber washer that could be considered a "wipe" before my betters allow me to, hellooooooo Club Fed!

What I can't figure out is how the $#&* I could I stay in regulations if I'm experimenting. If I have to pay $200 for every silencer, what parts make it "the silencer"? Logic would dictate that if I had a tube, some white lithium grease, a couple of pads of steel wool, and some washers that I don't have a silencer. But from what I read, because these can possibly be combined to make a loud boom into a softer pop (sorry, Hollywood, it doesn't go fweep) then I'm a felon. How on Earth would I experiment with different baffles or have something built if every part has to be considered? If I make one too many k-baffles, then do I need to buy another permission slip?

Hell, even Europe has laxer laws on mufflers than we do.

The Brady Bunch doesn't need grassroots to shut down legitimate firearm usage.

They just need the ATF to do what they do best.

I love how they enjoy banning safety features like mufflers, barrel shrouds, etc. Makes a hell of a lot of sense. On the other hand, they love to legally demand that you have a million little build in safeties on your gun so that it won't "just go off". In case you hadn't figured it out yet, gun laws aren't ever written by anyone who knows shit about guns.

When I'm supreme dictator, bill-writers, legalese-spouting congressional aides, lawyers, and power-hungry bureaucrats will the the first ones against the wall.

"The BATF is nothing more than a clusterfuck of power hungry dipshits who's only purpose in life is to make it damn near impossible to not be a criminal."

Sounds like that should be their official motto.

Uhm, duh. I thought we all knew that?
If I have to pay $200 for every silencer,
The comment I left was incorrect apparently. I thought you just wanted to buy one.

The manufacturer doesn't pay that tax, to the best of my knowledge, just the buyer

Still, I'm sure the SOT needed to become a Title II manufactuer is going to cost more than the $200 transfer tax while you're in the experimentation phase.

After expiration of your SOT to manufacture you'd have to destroy all the silencers unless you transfered them to yourself which would require comliance with all the NFA transfer laws and that $200 tax stamp.

Europe more lax? Well, I hate to tell you this but some European countries require the possession and use of sound suppressors as civic duty to protect their citizens from excessive noise disturbance.

Hate to say this, arrow, but I actually think that makes at least some sense. If you don't have a suppressor, you're infringing on your neighbor's right to have some peace and quiet while you shoot.

Not that I enjoy government mandates of any kind, but this gun law you speak of is at least beneficial to the average person. ;)
