Reporter Jailed for Having Gun at School

"Kindly go across the street now," an officer is shown telling Weinsier during the videotaped encounter.

"I'm not," Weinsier replied. The officer then handcuffed him.

Weinsier, 40, was charged with possession of a firearm on school grounds, trespassing on school property with a weapon and resisting officers without violence.

You see, a gun on school grounds automatically turns the holder into a blood crazed killer who won't abide by the "No Guns" policy (while all other blood crazed killers wouldn't dare come near a school with a gun for fear of harsher penalties!).

Actually, we should thank Mr. Weinsier for saving hundreds of school children that day. I'm pretty sure the officer had a gun, and being on school property, that gun would have mentally controlled anyone near them causing massive casualties. Mr. Weinsier actually removed two guns from near a school that day, and two handguns can literally kill thousands of crippled orphans.

Wouldn't that be a PSH moment?

Say,
Do you happen to know whether the police exemptions (being allowed to get carry permits, carrying at schools and churches and private property) extends to retired police officers? It would almost be worth it to take a sabbatical, jump through the training hoops, and work for a month as a Boy in Blue in order to get lifetime preferential treatment.

I would be interested to know this reporter's stance on bearing arms prior to his being threatened with death.

I would be interested in his stance on Gun Free School Zones or as non NRA fanatics call it Child Murderers Paradise, prior to his life being threatened.

As I understand it from this report:
http://mfile.akamai.com/12918/wmv/vod.ibsys.com/2007/1023/14407909.200k.asx
the police carted him off BEFORE they knew he had a gun on him. It's only after the fact of being cuffed that they discovered he is licensed to carry, and was exercising that license.
They didn't cart him off because he was carrying a gun, *THEY DID NOT KNOW THAT AT THE TIME* they simply took him away because they did not want him on the sidewalk- gun or no gun. Probably worried that he would make them look bad like he made some area resturaunts look bad in another recent report series. (the reason he was carrying in the first place)

It's only afterward that they realized they can skew the perception of what happened as: School Police officers cart off reporter *because* he was carrying a gun. The headline, in all TRUTH, should read: "Reporter Carted off for "Trespassing" Later Found to be Armed."

From what I saw on the video he wasn't even on school property. The closest he came was the sidewalk and from what I understand, that is considered public property.

Yuri,

1000 feet from a school with a gun. That was his crime. Unless the law in that area provides for a specific exemption for CCW holders. To my knowledge, only Virginia provides such an exemption and then, only as long the CCW holder remains in their vehicle. If they get out, they are in technical violation of the law.

Hell, it doesn't even apply just to CCW. Don't ever get pulled over by a police officer on the way back from a range trip next to a school. They could throw that charge at you then too.

Why should the reporter get a pass on this? I wouldn't as a citizen CCW holder. Because I would be expected to know the law under such circumstances. In fact, I hope they run his ass through the ringer a little. Suddenly, an "only one", an exalted journalist in an establishment will understand the true nature of gun laws as they apply to us mortal folk.

With that realization, I might actually expect the media to begin to come around because now it is one of their own being "harassed". Can't have that! Something must be done! Not saying it is ideal but under such a situation, they might actually shed some real light on the nature of these feel good laws such as "gun free schools" that do nothing to protect schools and everything to harass the law-abiding.

They may not listen to us most of the time but they will listen to their own. Again, not ideal as I'd rather it be dealt with logic and reason but we can get the normally PSH media to turn inward and help us by defending one of their own against such "intrusions of their rights", I'll take it. Provided they aren't calling for special status as "media" in the same way police are largely exempt, it might be worthwhile.

Matt, from my understanding, the reason he was arrested had nothing to do with his firearm. The "only ones" simply didn't want to be filmed and, being "only ones", they assumed their command to do their bidding (i.e. leave) was all it takes to arrest a subject.
