Alas, there's been nothing but bad news for Mom. Her second surgery was more painful than the first, and they found more cancer in her lymph nodes. Out of the 9 they pulled out (originally we thought they pulled 15, but there was a miscommunication somewhere), one of them was positive.

Unfortunately, that's all we know. We don't have percentages, rates, possibilities, or anything. Just that one lymph node contained cancer.

An appointment has been set up with both the surgeon and an oncologist to get more information, but needless to say she's a little down in the dumps.

Rob,

You and your mother are in my thoughts. My mom has been battling cancer for a few years now so I understand what you're going through completely. I hope things improve and you have my best wishes and thoughts!

I still stop down anytime I run across blog entries about your mother, Robb.

She'll remain in my family's prayers as long as she fights this battle.

Robb -

First, I'm so sorry. Second, go to webmd.com, and print out everything you can find about breast cancer. Highlight things, take notes, write down questions. Send this all to your mother to take with her to the doctor's. I did this with my mother and it made us much less worried and frightened, because we knew what to expect, what was going to happen and how to fight back. Third, you're both in my thoughts, I'm hoping for the best possible outcome.

Contact me anytime for questions or venting, whatever.

B.

Thanks, B. I've done my research and my mom tried for a while but became too depressed reading things. A lot of it was the negativity, but she also gets depressed reading others' success stories while she's still looking at grueling chemotherapy sessions.

The hardest thing is to try to find things that can take her mind off of her situation and bring her some joy. I'm making sure my girls (at least my oldest) make her cards to send.

I'm going to wait to see what the oncologist tells her since right now I just don't have enough information about what they found to safely search for the whole thing. I know a ton about invasive ductal carcinoma from reading online (and a slightly funny thing, it's kind of awkward having your wife walk up behind you with a screen full of nipples).

Definitely a trying time for her and me as well. I'll definitely take you up on your offer if I need some outside views! Thanks a ton.
