Sharp as a Marble

Mom's been doing wonderful as far as getting around. Her and my aunt when out today for a while just to do some shopping and get out of the house. She's not needed to take any pain medication today at all which is wonderful.

Unfortunately, though, the doctor called yesterday and upon further inspection, there did appear to be cancer in some of the lymph nodes. Needless to say this has depressed my mother tremendously. The doctor is still confident that they caught the cancer in time (early), but this means she is probably going to have to start chemotherapy which can be so rough. We'll know more next week.

Computer wise, my cousin happened to have had a spare computer and gave it to my mom to use as long as she needs. I've already got it up and running for her, the only problem is that the system doesn't support SATA drives like the one in her old computer. So I'm going to take the hard drive back with me since my PC is SATA, copy everything down to DVD's and mail them back to her. That way she at least has all of her data like photographs and Photoshop files.

Then, as long as the cancer treatments don't bog her down too much, we'll build her a nice PC from scratch (since it's cheap as can be) and I'll have time to make sure we get it together and running flawlessly.

I had to clean her Rossi 38 Special for her. It was filthy. I hate that revolver. It's stiff, way too small for my hands, and jumps around like crazy when I fire it. But she's good with it, so I'm getting it all oiled up and cleaned for her.

It's hard. It's been a stressful week for me and I know it's been hard on her as well. Thank God for my aunt who's been able to help with all the medical things (she's a nurse) because I think my mom would die from embarrassment if I had to do it all.

Glad she's feeling better. KeeWee and I will keep her i nour thoughts and prayers.

How about using a SATA adapter card plugged into a PCI slot on the older mobo?

I've thought about that, or possibly getting an external SATA enclosure with USB connectivity, but again I don't know how long my cousin will let her use the current PC.

Of course, if I went with an internal card, I'd also have to get a power adapter (unless the cards come with one).

Aw, I'm so sorry your mom has to go through chemo. It can be difficult, that's for sure. Please get your mom involved in some sort of survivor's group, so she can be in contact with other women who have gone through the same journey and came out the other side.

When my mom started losing her hair, she and I both went to the salon and got our heads shaved. (mine wasn't all the way to the scalp, though. She wouldn't let me) You might want to do this with your mother, too. It might be good for her to be the one who decides when to be bald, instead of just passively waiting for it to happen.

Good luck to you both!

Thanks, all.

Breda, I'm a former Marine. My head is always close cut. I am thinking about getting a pink ribbon tattoo though. Instead of the typical Heart & banner with "Mom".

Unfortunately, I live in Florida and she lives in Georgia so it's difficult to "be here". Luckily my aunt is fairly close by, but it's going to be really difficult over the distance. I've been trying to get her to move near me for years, and according to my aunt, my mom has discussed it quite a bit, so I guess I shouldn't give up hope.

But Georgia is home for my mom, and I can understand why it would be emotionally near impossible for her to just up and move.

It's going to be rough, but we'll get through it.
