Superfluous demagoguery.
Explain to me then how a concealed weapon, ie a weapon that other people do not know you have, protects you from some one else with a gun or discourages any one from attacking you.
A) I'd prefer to open carry myself. Cops rarely get attacked and for good reason.
B) I'm not so concerned about discouraging as I am about being able to respond with overwhelming force.
The movies always play to the extremes of reality when it comes to gun fights. The good guy is steady and sure in his shooting with every shot being a "one shot stop" while the bad guys put 20 rounds in the hero's heart and he still continues on.
The truth is that getting shot does not necessarily mean you're dead. So if I get ambushed and shot, I want to be able to fight until either the threat is gone. And if I'm injured, jujitsu probably isn't an available option, I'd like something that requires a little less physical exertion.
Also, I believe that my weekly trips to the range help improve my shooting, even when I don't have time to aim (a few days ago I tried point shooting and surprise surprise, while I didn't get bullseyes, I hit the target every time). So I have an advantage there too.
Sure, you can't block a sucker punch. So what? And if the sheep in our society wouldn't get so scared at the site of a gun, open carry would be one hell of a deterrent.
