A thought occurred to me the other day when poking fun at the "enlightened" who think that one day, man will be a peaceful being and that there will be no more need for weapons. I don't know exactly where this goes, but indulge me for a moment.
In a totally peaceful world, what would be the harm if every single person carried a gun? If they're peaceful, there would never be a use of the weapon. It would be for all intents and purposes like jewelry, non-utilitarian and for decoration. But a truly peaceful person would not use it, ever.
Unless you are of the mind that the gun itself causes violence - that somehow the plastic and metal, when combined in a particular way, produces alpha waves that penetrate the brain and forces the midbrain to take over, releasing our animal like aggression.
Even if there wasn't a need, there might be a want. Honestly, most of my firearms of the "want" variety. Only 2 of them are for self defense. The rest are just for recreational shooting. Peaceful people still want to have fun, and something about tickling the basest of our instincts is enjoyable.
When I first started packing, the Mrs. had a few objections. Why would I want to carry in church, or at a preschool function, or at a playground? My response was similar to what I discussed above. I, being a peaceful person (being capable of violence does not make you non-peaceful), would not deploy the weapon without cause. Just the gun being on me wouldn't change who I am, no matter what the newspapers tell you.
Like I said, I'm not going anywhere in particular with this post (it's very stream of conscious writing), but think about that for a minute. 100% non violent people could carry guns and there would be no threat, right? It is irrational to think otherwise.
