They're not that scary, are they?
Awhile back, I made a list of things I want to do that I have never done. On this list, I included “shoot a gun.” This weekend, I did it. The reasons I wanted to shoot a gun included: I had never done it before, I wanted to see what the big deal was, I wanted to do something that was scary/tough, I like Charlie’s Angels, I wanted to be able to judge action adventure movies better, I wanted a new experience, and I wasn’t sure how I felt about issues like gun control until I gave guns a fair try.

I hope that she had a good enough time and that she realized that guns in and of themselves are powerless and that it takes a human to make them do anything at all. Of course, Alex over at "ILoveTouchingMyPrivatesMoreThanYouLoveYourGun" would tell her she doesn't have the right to protect herself against a rapist using the only tool that puts her at an advantage, but that shows how little people on the gun control side care about the welfare of others.
Joy isn't sure she'd ever own a gun. I would advise her never to do so unless she's ready for the responsibility that comes with gun ownership. That means proper training, understanding the 4 rules of firearm safety, and the mindset that she is responsible for her own safety.
I rarely see anyone shoot who doesn't come away with a better appreciation of guns. We should always be there for the Joys of the world, to help them understand better what it means to be free men and women instead of the slaves the gun controllers would rather us be.
