Are drawings of things that resemble guns themselves.

PSH Alert

Chandler boy suspended for sketching gun

An East Valley eighth-grader was suspended this week after he turned in homework with a sketch that school officials said resembled a gun and posed a threat to his classmates.

...

Payne Junior High officials did not allow the Tribune to view the drawing. The Mostellers said the drawing did not depict blood, injuries, bullets or any human targets. They said it was just a drawing that resembled a gun.

There was a time when adults could tell the difference between reality and fantasy and kids couldn't. That doesn't seem to be the case any more.

This was a doodle. You can't take a doodle and shoot someone with it. My God, when I was a kid I drew robots with swords attacking monsters with laser beam eyes and sharp claws, it didn't mean I wanted to terrorize Tokyo with weapons of mass destruction. How insecure must you be with your ability to make decisions if you have to take such a unyielding Zero-Tolerance approach to governing a school?

Yet we pay these "principals" 6 figure salaries to not make decisions. You could replace them with a wide-slotted toaster and it would make better decisions. Kids doodle all kinds of things, and a scribble that resemble a f*cking gun is nothing to get your panties in a wad about!

My poor daughters are going to have it rough. Georgia will probably be shooting a rifle before she starts 1st grade. Heaven forbid the teacher asks her to tell the class what she did over a weekend. At this rate, that would be cause for long term imprisonment.

Home schooling is looking more and more attractive every day. Even if I couldn't teach my kids advanced trigonometry as well as a public school teacher, at least they'd be better prepared for the real world.

I used to draw swaztikas just because I thought they looked cool, until a teacher saw them and had a talk with me...

The Mrs and I were just having this talk the other day. I'm almost afraid to see what the world will become when all these coddled kids are let loose upon society.

That's pretty sad. I think they realized how stupid the situation was going to make them look when they refused to let the father make a copy.

Look out!! That gun drawing could give someone a papercut! God forbid, the child actually exercise his imagination... I mean, he could cut that thing out, and use it to hold up a convenience store!

*sighs*

You know, it is probably just as well I was born when I was... the drawings I made back in my childhood would have probably landed me in a shrink's office, at best.

However, if you are seriously interested in homeschooling your children (something I am becoming more and more a supporter of, every day, especially since I have some of it in my background), I would suggest looking at http://www.calvertschool.org/accredited-homeschool-curriculum/ . Their webpage explains their system better than I could, but suffice to say it works. Hey, I survived it...

Sounds like some people in that area need to get out at election time and clear out their school board in favor of some rational adults.

I'm more and more for the home schooling. I'm fed up with the "knee jerk" reactions from school administration.

My son, years ago (he has a 6mo old daughter now), was penalized for bringing an "inhalant" to school. It was disappearing ink and had no odor. Of course we called them on it.

After I retired from the Army I took the troops to teachers route. Schools are so into liberal, feel good, they can't see the bullies for need. No, I didn't make as a teacher. I can tell you that more money does not equal better education though.

Homeschooling is the way to go--my own experiences with it were excellent, so perhaps I'm biased, but I'm confident that even though it isn't easy, it's worth it.

Funny thing. The total incompetence of my high school trig teacher (the largest factor in my flunking out of engineering school which wasn't my fault) was one of the reasons we decided to homeschool. Our son's success in dealing with the real world has turned out quite well, thank you.

Stickers. That or rubber stamps. Or I'd xerox a picture of a gun 9 to a page, cut them out, and scatter them around the school. By weeks end there would be hundreds of images anonymously scattered around the school.

Down in the the corner would be a single sentence "The free content of this picture is brought to you by the First Amendment."

I also drew Swastikas and any kind of shit I thought would wind those liberal teachers up. Those people are so easy to offend and it was so much fun that it was well worth the hidings I received from my father for doing it. I sure ain't a NAZI but spinning those twits into stuttering outrage still gives me good distraction from otherwise boring days. There is something wrong when we have to entrust our children to a narrow headed nitwit (and probably a bloody socialist) like that principal in AZ. I live in Thailand and my kids went to a very expensive international school until I studied there report cards and saw no grades just "good effort". I took them to a private Thai school and they are 1-2 years behind already and they are only in grade three. New age crap. We're paying for the 60's now!
