Oh, the logical knots the anti-gunners tie themselves into. Check out this Einstein level post

The Newark shooting is just one more tragic example of the carnage caused with illegal guns. The shooters were legally prohibited from having guns, but found a way to get them nonetheless. How?

The gun lobby will tell you criminals will always find a way, and the best we can do is lock up perpetrators after-the-fact. But Gov. Corzine knows that by giving law enforcement the tools they need to answer Where did the gun come from? authorities can crack down on traffickers and stop tragedies like the one in Newark before they happen.

Locking up criminals won't stop crime, but knowing every last thing about every gun purchased will stop the crime from happening?

There's a quantum entanglement somewhere scratching its head over that leap of logic.

So, let's do the math shall we? A criminal buys a gun, illegally from the street. That transaction is not recorded anywhere (most street level gun dealers don't accept Visa nor do they give receipts). How is this level of intrusion into gun owners' lives going to stop him from now using that gun and shooting someone?

It won't. It simply will cost a lot of money and make mini-tyrant Corzine appear to be doing something when he's not. The government can't keep the roads paved or bridges from collapsing and these buffoons want to give them more and more power.

These people want a police state. They want the government to know every little detail of your life, all under the guise of "protecting you from yourself". More cameras in public, more access to your personal data, more intrusion into your private affairs. They think that as long as they're "protecting you", there's no problem with curtailing your liberties no matter how expensive or how many times the process has failed before.

If these addle brained control freaks spent 1/1000th the amount of effort into actually locking up violent criminals and keeping them off the street, our crime would vanish. But instead they attack those who follow the law because they are weak minded and devoid of the fortitude that is required to do something that works.

And we, as a society, continue to elect these jokers and let them run our lives.

I'm confuzeled. I thought the police weren't allowed to share the data. That's what the hoplophobes kept crying.
