See anything wrong with this article from the Times Online UK?

Such a tragedy prompted new calls for increased arms controls from presidential candidates, among them Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama; the issue also enjoys bi-partisan support. Nancy Pelosi, the Republican speaker of the House of Representatives, is an outspoken anti-firearm campaigner, insisting that US gun manufacturers and retailers be held responsible in law for gun misuse.

I guess when there isn't bipartisan support and you want there to be, it's no big deal to lie about a person's party membership to prove your point. Remember, the narrative is more important than the truth.

But in America, getting serious about gun control might well amount to a one-way ticket to the political wilderness. There are over 200m guns in the US, almost enough to arm every American adult; however, only a quarter of US adults own guns. A recent survey showed that gun ownership is most prevalent among the college-educated middle classes living in rural states, most of them Republican.

No, I know plenty of Democrats with guns, and I know more city dwellers with plenty of firepower than I can count. By it's easier to spread lies that research and tell the truth.

Kyle Cassidy spent two years photographing American gun owners in their homes, starting in his home state of Pennsylvania. His extraordinary pictures confirm that gun ownership in America is not confined simply to a narrow social class – he met doctors, lawyers, business executives, tattoo artists, web designers, all with an enthusiasm for firearms. His pictures have a haunting, surreal quality; the overwhelming majority of those who were happy to be photographed are law-abiding and God-fearing. It’s just that along with the walk-in wardrobe and ice-dispensing refrigerator, they happen to own an Uzi submachinegun.

Again with another flat out lie.

So, let's hear it for editorial checks!

I suppose I should expect this from them... Then again, that article isn't far removed from what you're likely to see published on this side of the Atlantic.

Looks like they're taking a page from Josh Sugarman's playbook.

Actually, one of the couples Mr. Cassidy visited lived in the Portland area, and owned quite a few submachine guns - whether they were just SBRs or full auto, I don't know. They were legally owned, though. (Either way, the guy was rich.)

I guess I should clarify - The article makes it seem that practically every person who owns a gun is Rural, Republican, and owns sub machine guns. Yes, some do have the luxury of being able to afford paying Uncle Sam for the privilege of exercising their fundamental rights (*spit*), but as I believe the intent of this article is to mislead, they don't want to inform people how heavily controlled automatic firearms are.

I'm surprised the write let it slip in there that gun owners are college-educated. Most left-wing rags in this country portray us all as a bunch of gap-toothed Goober Pyles, tooling around Mayberry in our '48 Ford pick-ups and rusted out El Caminos, drinking moonshine and blasting stop signs with buckshot.

Not that there's anything wrong with any of that.
