The other day I was having lunch with some coworkers at a pizza joint. After we ordered, in walked 3 plainclothes cops, all openly carrying. One would hope they were cops as they all had handcuffs, mace, and a badge (funny side note - one female had pink handcuffs) but those aren't exactly difficult things to procure. Heck, the badge alone is easy enough to fake, and nobody specifically asks to see them up close.
Nobody even blinked an eye.
Now, if I were to walk into a pizza joint with my Glock 29 showing, there'd be a lot of scared people. I don't wear cuffs (well...), I don't have mace, and I don't have a badge. But me carrying is no different than the three individuals carrying their weapon. My life is just as important, and I'm just as entitled to defend myself.
Why is it that people assume that a firearm, worn openly on someone who appears to be a cop (were they? Who knows?) is inherently safe, but someone like me who practices with a firearm at least once a week, sometimes more, is a danger to society?
Unless of course it's hidden under my shirt. Then we're all ok?
Just odd.
