Sharp as a Marble

One can never have too many guns, in my opinion. However, one must balance needs versus wants. I'm not at that point yet, so I'm just compiling a list of firearms that I want. I need to put them in order and I'd like a little help in determining brands if anyone has any advice. Used is probably what I'd look at to save some dough.

The .22 pistol - I'm thinking about getting a nice .22 with a red-dot sight for accuracy shooting. With the ,257 Magnum, 10mm, or the 7.62x54r, all I care about is hitting the target (where isn't as critical). But I want to plink with pinpoint accuracy and there's no better way than a good .22  to do that.

The Shotgun - Need one for home defense. Period. I can shoot 12 gauge just fine, but the Mrs. might need something a bit less boomy. I'd like pump action for the sound. Couldn't care less what it looks like as long as when I pull the trigger it shoots fairly straight.

The Pocket Pistol - Maybe something like a Beretta Tomcat. Something I can just shove in my pocket if I'm wearing something that doesn't allow for concealing the Glock 29. Nothing smaller than a 32 auto though.

The 9mm - I want a nice 9mm for two reasons. One - easy to handle for newer shooters. Two - cheaper ammo that I won't have to worry about collecting the brass for. I'd prefer a non-Glock simply because I already have a Glock.

and finally

The AR-15 - Because I admit it, they're fun to shoot. And Sarah Brady doesn't want me to have one.

We just bought new couches this weekend so the Mrs. is planning a yard sale to get rid of everything that no longer matches. I'm going to dig deep and try to get rid of everything I can to scrounge up some extra cash.

I carry a CZ100 9mm, picked it up at Gander Mountain for about $280 new. I prefer it to other poly framed pistols. For a pocket pistol, check out the Kel-Tec 9mm P11. Even has a clip mount for carrying w/o a holster.

No reason to justify an AR, I'm a recent convert from ComBloc guns to EBRs. You can pick up DoubleStar stripped lowers on GunBroker for about $99 and build from there.

Great Blog by the way, started reading it a few weeks back, good stuff!

I got a .357 revolver for my 10th anniversary present from DH. I like a revolver because my fingers sometimes lack the strength to load an automatic. And it's simple.

Check into NRA classes in the area. I took an introduction to firearms for women. I had a blast and met a woman from my area who I used to go to the local range and shoot with every once in a while. The guys who ran the range brought out a gazillion firearms of all different types and we got to shoot as many as we wanted. I still remember one woman shooting this hand cannon off and whooping each time. The guys were great instructors and it was a fun way to spend a Saturday. (DH gets jealous that there's nothing like that for men!)

Like the comment before, check out kel tec, I've been eyeing up the .380 auto for sometime now. As for shotgun, I've always like Mossberg due to the location of the safety and the price., even though Remingon 870's have more add on's. For .22LR pistol I use to like Ruger, but recently convertyed over to Buckmark. They are easier to strip and clean compared to the Ruger. Just food for thought.

Michael, can you put a sight on the Buckmark, though? It didn't seem like they had a rail I could attach a red dot to.

Then again, it just might have not appeared that way in the picture.

Oh, and GBT, I have one hell of a .357 Magnum revolver. The Mrs. can't even pull back the hammer because of the size, though.

It's definitely a cannon though.

My $0.02...

Ruger Mark II or 22/45 for the pistol. The new, "so many safeties it'll blow your mind" Mark III leaves me completely cold.

Shotgun: It's hard to make a bad choice these days. Rem 870, Mossy 500, Benelli Nova, etc.

Pocket pistol: I have a Seecamp .32 that lives in my pocket full-time. Love it. You can also get it in .380.

9mm: Hi-Power!

AR: Outside my area of expertise. I'd probably build my own, with the goal of minimum weight. I think a 9-lb .223 is ridiculous, but that's just me.
