Sharp as a Marble

Well, the Mrs. was supposed to go the range with me today, however due to this and that, we had to reschedule for this Friday afternoon.

I loaded some Hornady XTP 155 gr. with 10.4 gr. of TiteGroup which I didn't think I liked. After today, that has changed. It's definitely got a snappier feel than the Longshot, but the 10.4 grain loads just seemed to fit in my hand.

I also took some advice from some of my commenters and dry fired like hell throughout the week. Turns out, there's nothing wrong with my sights. The first 20 rounds shot low. I decided to switch to a modified Weaver stance and WOW what a difference.

These are all at 10 yards (total ring size it 10") - click for full size

Not bad for someone who was shooting low and to the left last week. I even did a great job on double taps on the last target (not pictured). Remember, these are from a 10mm, subcompact frame!

Next week I think I might even attempt the isosceles stance.

The isosceles stance?!
You've been watching to many late 80's police dramas...
Nobody shoots with both elbows locked. Yuck.

Well, you are rather tall and lanky..maybe a modified Stressfire isosceles would work for your body type. Although you would look like a dork with your head down and forward..cause of your abnormally long neck, by I digress.

What most people do is a form of modified stance using the techniques from multiple methods. The correct stance is YOUR stance.

Just look how cool Sonny Crocket looks using his modified Chapman stance!

One more thing...

I almost forgot to stroke your ego...

That was some nice shooting! I'm not saying that to be nice, or because I'm afraid you'll go postal with a tight shot-group.
I'm saying that because Uncle-Sam trains a Marine to fire a rifle.
Handguns are for Tankers, pilots, and officers. You were none of those.
I'm glad an old marine like yourself can learn new tricks!

Great shooting!

TOP 10 REASONS WHY SOME MEN FAVOR HANDGUNS OVER WOMEN

#10 - YOU CAN TRADE AN OLD 44 FOR A NEW 22.
#9 - YOU CAN KEEP ONE HANDGUN AT HOME, AND HAVE ANOTHER FOR WHEN YOU'RE ON THE ROAD.
#8 - IF YOU ADMIRE A FRIEND'S HANDGUN, AND TELL HIM SO, HE WILL PROBABLY LET YOU TRY IT OUT A FEW TIMES.
#7 - YOUR PRIMARY HANDGUN DOESN'T MIND IF YOU KEEP ANOTHER HANDGUN FOR A BACK UP.
#6 - YOUR HANDGUN WILL STAY WITH YOU EVEN IF YOU RUN OUT OF AMMO.
#5 - A HANDGUN DOESN'T TAKE UP A LOT OF CLOSET SPACE.
#4 - HANDGUNS FUNCTION NORMALLY EVERY DAY OF THE MONTH.
#3 - A HANDGUN DOESN'T ASK, "DO THESE NEW GRIPS MAKE ME LOOK FAT?
#2 - A HANDGUN DOESN'T MIND IF YOU GO TO SLEEP AFTER YOU USE IT.

And, the number one reason a handgun is favored over a woman...
#1 - YOU CAN BUY A SILENCER FOR A HANDGUN !!! "

Uh oh, now you've done it! Why not ask "Which is better, 9mm or 45?" or "Ford vs. Chevy" or "Protestant or Catholic; Which way to the promised land?" :)

That old saw about "if you're in a correct stance, you're not using cover or movement correctly" has a lot of merit to it. I think that out of the fundamentals of sight picture/alignment, grip, stance and trigger control, stance is the least important.

There are lots of serious gunpeople who shoot very very well from some form of iso. And pretty much every action pistol competitor uses it too. The best answer is to try it out yourself and see how it works!

That said, I'm a Weaver dude. I think iso sticks your gun out too far in a weak grip that's too easy to take away. I think Weaver is a lot more flexible for engaging multiple and/or moving targets, movement, and shooting around cover.

And damn, dude! Those are some nice targets for 10mm's out of a baby Glock! Keep making holes like that and speed will come!

pdb, your trick of only letting off the trigger until it clicks is also what did the trick. That slight bit of travel that I save let me double tap with damn good accuracy.

The nice thing that I keep in mind is that the entire size of the target paper (don't worry about the rings) is the size of a medium to large chest. All those hits, even the ones outside the rings, are COM on a human.

I like the modified weaver (I pull my arms inward, both arms bent instead of dominant stretched out) because I can move very well while keeping my body turned and the gun can stay on target if acquired. It's also the natural way I'd carry at the ready.

I need to practice point shooting too, but I'm not sure if the range I go to allows it. I'd have to move the little tray on the range or else risk shooting it!

That's awesome work. I would not think that a sub-com 10mm would do such good things.
