Two things, both from David C over at War On Guns.
First, this little doozy from the NY slimes
U.S. Set to Begin a Vast Expansion of DNA Sampling
The Justice Department is completing rules to allow the collection of DNA from most people arrested or detained by federal authorities, a vast expansion of DNA gathering that will include hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants, by far the largest group affected.
The new forensic DNA sampling was authorized by Congress in a little-noticed amendment to a January 2006 renewal of the Violence Against Women Act, which provides protections and assistance for victims of sexual crimes. The amendment permits DNA collecting from anyone under criminal arrest by federal authorities, and also from illegal immigrants detained by federal agents.
Read that again. Anyone under arrest. No conviction necessary. You don't even own the rights to your own fracking DNA any more. Oh, there's ton's of drivel about how many rapists this would have put away. I've got a better idea - once your proven guilty of rape in a court of law, then you get your DNA taken. If you do it again, they take your wedding tackle.
Oh, and this was supported by *GASP* Republicans who apparently have no fucking clue why they got their asses kicked out of power. Long live the permanent Dem. majority I guess. It's in response to "illegal immigrants". Here's another clue for the idiots in power - Lock up the borders, shoot anyone coming across illegally, throw those here against the law back to their home land. That fixes the problem without stomping on our rights.
Speaking of stomping on our rights, the Second Amendment isn't looking so healthy any more. It's no longer fighting over laws that infringe, it's fighting over who gets to do the infringing. Says David
I wasn't aware that I gave another human being authority to vote on my unalienable rights. Were you?
What if they all got together and voted that you couldn't own a non-approved book, or go to the church of your choice? What if they voted they could board their enforcers at your house any time they so decreed? What if they voted they could arbitrarily enter your house and search it and you any time they wanted, and use what they found against you in criminal proceedings? What if they voted they could force you to testify against yourself? What if they voted they could just take your property without compensation, or hold you without charges, or convict you without due process, or deprive you of the right to trial by jury? What if they voted they could punish you with torture or disfigurement? What if they voted to deny you a host of other rights, and to assume powers never intended for or delegated to them?
This is something I try to harp on constantly - The Bill of Rights is not a buffet. You don't get to pick and choose which rights you think should apply and which shouldn't. And they're all individual rights, not collective rights. So, when you anti-gun nuts think the second only applies to groups of people controlled by the state and work hard to remove that right, don't come crying to me when they pass laws that restrict your speech (you know. Like the McCain Feingold Act) tell you what orifice you're allowed to poke your pecker, what you can and cannot own, etc.
Our elected representatives act more and more like our "masters" every day.
