I hear it all the time. "If you have guns in your house you're only adding to the guns in the streets since your weapon could be stolen". This is a major argument for removing the right to bear arms in the U.S.

I guess the hoplophobes are going to start requesting the FBI disarm themselves for the same reason.

Seven weapons, including two submachine guns, were stolen last weekend from an FBI agent's vehicle in Southwest Washington, the agency said yesterday.

Also taken were ammunition, a police radio, bullet-resistant vests, body armor and photography equipment, the FBI said.

At least we can rest assured that the criminals who took these weapons will follow the law and (a) not shoot anyone with them (b) will not conceal them (c) won't sell them without doing a thorough background check.

Because, criminals obey the law!

I couldn't resist commenting on this one, I'm an avid gun collector myself, and find it humorous when the gun control freaks ramble about how my owning guns is making it easier for a criminal to get guns.

The truth is that there is a problem with crime in this country, thats an inarguable fact. There is also a problem with housing the criminals in this country, there's not enough jails, and not enough tax money to build enough jails.

Taking guns away from those legally able to own them in this country will not make it any easier or harder for criminals to own guns, it will only make it harder for the law abiding people to protect themself.

BUT I ask this, the anti-gun fenatics are offering up the solution of taking the guns away, what solutions are the pro-gun groups offering up??? And "enforcing the laws on the books" does not count as a solution...

How about this as a posible solution? How about removing the victimless crimes from the books, regulating and taxing the industry that currently goes tax and regulation free, and then using the jail space that's freed up by those so called criminals by keeping real criminals in jail longer.....

Michial, I'm all for removing victimless crimes such as repealing the War on Some Drugs and prostitution. But what industry are you talking about that doesn't get taxed or regulated?

Now, I disagree about the solution thing. Crime and legal gun ownership have nothing to do with one another. I do not need to solve problem X in order to exercise my second amendment rights. So, gun rights activists have no requirement to solve the crime problem. By owning firearms and having the laws that allow me to defend myself and my family, we can lower the impact of crime and make the 'cost' of perpetrating an unlawful act much, much higher.

Me owning 2 or 200 guns has no effect on crime other than to deter a criminal from breaking into my house or attacking me.

And I'm all for 2 strikes and you're out.
