Went to Knights Shooting Sports on Saturday to put a few rounds through the new Glock.
The very first shot took out the X (@ 20'). The remaining 9 stayed within either the bullseye or the inner most ring. So, I'm confident I can handle the recoil of the 10 with no problem. The funny part is that since I've been practicing dry firing, there was 0 flinching for that first pull.
I can't say as much about the next few ;)
One thing that is really cool about the Glock 29 is that the rounds are supersonic, and when they leave the barrel, the shockwave makes a cool 'donut' shape of the flame. The next time I go I'll try to take video of it to see if I can catch it. It's really neat to see.
I also fired my trusty .357 since I had a whole case of reloads I've not been able to shoot (the range I used to go to didn't allow reloads). Those suckers were hot. The guy who loaded them gave them to me because the Dan Wesson I have could handle them. Also fired some .38 specials since I had a large box from when I had the wife shooting with me. After firing Walt's reloads, the .38's felt more like misfires.
The one thing I've learned though is not to fill the magazines all the way when shooting. When you pay $18 for 50 rounds, that's only 5 magazines (keep wanting to call them clips - a major faux pas in the firearm world!) to go through. And with a semiautomatic, you could do that in under a minute. I'd love to reload my own ammo, but I doubt the Mrs. is going to let me get into another expensive hobby (well, it's only expensive in the up front costs. Then again, that's what I said about the beer hobby).
Anyway, I had a great time at the range and I'm planning on going at least once a month this year to stay proficient in my firing. I also plan on taking a few defensive firearms classes and try to practice drawing and firing as I learn what style concealment works best for me.
And I hope and pray to God that every penny and every hour I spend on this stuff is a waste and that I never have to make use of the training.
