Apparently, the MSM's vaunted editorial checks aren't quite as vaunted as they like to pretend. Let's look at this little gem
GULFPORT - Johnathan Barfield had gotten used to answering the door at his FEMA trailer with a Glock pistol in his hand.
Scary gun story.
But when Tiffany Talley knocked Wednesday, the gun somehow fell from his grasp and to the floor, discharging a bullet that struck the Gulfport High standout student in the face and killed her.
Just to clarify something, this is a tragedy, regardless of how bad the idiot reporter screwed up the story. It's sad to hear of anyone getting killed that early in their life.
... The investigator also said Talley might have "bumped" Barfield, causing him to accidentally fire the weapon. ...
According to an affidavit obtained by the Sun Herald, Barfield responded to a knock at the door and saw it was Talley. He then "uncocked" the weapon "and either it went off mistakenly, or dropped it to the floor and discharged, with the bullet striking her in the head and killing her. He then threw away the revolver and telephoned his father, prior to calling for emergency help."
Can you spot the failure in the multiple layers of fact checking the media supposedly has?
-
Glock does not make revolvers.
-
Glocks, being hammerless, cannot be 'uncocked'
-
Glocks' safety system prevents accidental firings from being dropped.
So, the weapon was not a Glock or the dropping / bumping / revolver portions are incorrect.
This isn't a whine about media bias, it's a whine about the media being a bunch of people writing about things they are not subject matter experts on expecting an editor who also has no idea about these things to correct them and then expecting the sheep people to value their word as if it were direct from God.
At least on blogs, commenters can point out the mistakes and the story could get quickly corrected.
