From Q&O, discussing the horrible fact that concealed carry permits have lowered crime instead of turning the states that have them into Wild West 2.0

Sometimes the truth hurts, but not as much as a well-placed bullet.

Uuuhhhh.... The qando article never mentions CCW permits and the linked-to article only mentions the word concealed once, and it's not by anyone in an official civic capacity.

It would be difficult at best to extrapolate the intent of this post to be representative of the benefits, or lack of negative effects, of weapons permits of any kind, much less CCWs.

The only mention of the purported benefits of the increased CCW permits is by the commenter who left that remark.

Especially in light of the fact that the first article mentioned in the linked-to post didn't involve a gun.

Moreover, the linked-to articles examples would serve to highlight the lack of training in the use of and/or care with which guns are used.

"I just started shooting," said Gloria Doster, 56. "I was trying to blow his brains out is what I was trying to do."
That frightens the hell out of me.

Even worse;
"Because if you don't, and I get a hold of it and there's a gun in there, I'll shoot your ear off or I'll take your toe, because you're not going to take my purse away from me," she told him.
So, if he had decided to not give her the purse, he would now have her gun and she would likely be dead.

I'm a gun-rights supporter, but I would never use these stories as examples why...

Not very clear, but I was referring to the comment and not the article. Q&O runs a homemade blog engine and the comments don't have anchors on them that I can link to like most other blogs. The next comment underneath is even funnier.

Personally, I agree with you that the linked to article has some horrendous examples where it was more luck than skill that 'saved the day'. The purse example is just sheer stupidity. However, being someone who has been unfortunate enough to have to pull a gun in self defense, I cannot stress strongly enough how much a deterrent they can be.

Maybe I'll write a post about it.

I look forward to reading it.

I've never owned a handgun and therefore never been in a position to pull one in self-defense or any other reason.

I have however been on the other end of a gun. Stupid fight on a college campus.

I live in AZ where you don't even need a CCW. You can rock an old-west style hip holster if you like. I have considered purchasing a gun lately though, although less for protection and more for entertainment. But, in light of this article I may move that purchase up;

If you want to keep your checked valuables from being stolen while you fly, just keep a gun in your suitcase.

...

once you add a gun -- even a starter pistol -- to your luggage, it gets extra-locked, gains new tracking privileges, and is subject to heightened scrutiny all the way to your destination.

Of course, another part of me is inclined to follow this rule when traveling, which would cancel out the gun-packing method;
As a die-hard Constitutionalist, I believe that we still have an absolute, unfettered, God-given right to travel from point A to point B without permission from the state -- in the air, as well as on land. This Nazi procedure of "your papers, please" has never been appropriate for our country. I have had occasion to travel a good deal in the last several months, and on those trips I decided to research and test this issue about the necessity for producing identification. I have talked with agents, and their supervisors, of several major airlines in cities across America, and have gradually pieced together a rather complete picture of the real legal situation regarding our right to travel.

I have to fly in November and am intending to fly ID free. I plan to post about my success or failure.

Of course, with some of the content of my blog, I may end up in Cuba.

Or worse.

Fixed it. It was a SQL / StoredProc issue.
