Sharp as a Marble

So, the source of my computer woes finally reared its ugly head – A faulty SATA controller. I got home to a lovely CLICK – BZZZZZZZZZ – CLICK – CLICK coming from my harddrive. Don’t know what the issue was, so I just went out and bought a regular IDE drive and put it in. Of course I had to reinstall, but at least I got to switch back to XP 64 which was a hell of a lot faster (until the SATA issue popped up).

Anyway, a new OS means reinstalling all twelve billion of my programs. One of those is Adobe Photoshop CS2. Which I’ve managed to install at least 8 times due to system crashes / new PC’s / whatever.

After so many installs, you can no longer activate it automatically over the internet. So, the other option is to call Adobe and talk with a rep who can give you the code needed to activate your product. I don’t feel like talking to anyone and having to explain for the umpteenth time why I’m having to reinstall.

So I just pirated it (found an app that would generate the code needed to unlock).

Pirated software I legally own. How dorky is that?

Try The GIMP instead.

In any discussion of Photoshop, inevitably somebody is going to pipe up and say "Gimp."

This individual is guaranteed to be the one person in the group who has never actually used Photoshop.

I would like to point out that I have used Photoshop, and would still recommend GIMP to just about anyone.
Having done some fairly extensive graphics work, with as many as 270 layers and file sizes up to 1.3 GB, GIMP is still a more than adequate, and free to boot, replacement for Photoshop ver. any...

Well, the GIMP may be free, but I already own Photoshop. And I've worked on GIMP before, and it's close but no cigar. Call it personal preference if you will, but when I worked with it, it just didn't have the color correction features that I needed, nor was the plug-in support there.

But for most people, yeah, it'll work fine.

I completely understand what you mean about the already owning. It has gotten completely out of control when you are forced to "hack" your LEGAL copy of software in order to use it...
Yes, I know, you can call, but you shouldn't have to. It's your software. Period.

Something similiar to this which is endlessly frustrating to me;
Audible.com. You can activate up to, I think 6 devices. This includes the software player on your computer, and portable player or pocketpc/palm devices, etc.
You are allowed to DE-acivate them, but only ONE device every SIX MONTHS!
Guess that means you have to stretch your technology acquisitions out over several years...
Ridiculous.

GIMP is good for quick and dirty crops and resizes. Not to mention, a few other things.

But it's not Photoshop or even Paint Shop Pro.
