Several bloggers have commented on the fact that, in the aftermath of Katrina and the flooding of New Orleans, the only country to offer any sort of support has been Israel. Some bemoan the lack of support and find it sad that with all the help we give others, the favor is never returned.
And to summarize a comment I’ve left on this – Fuck ‘em.
We don’t need their help. We don’t need piles of flowers at some church in a foreign land to help America rebuild what needs to be rebuilt. If Bill Gates’ car breaks down, he doesn’t need your money to buy a new transmission. He has enough of his own. America works the same way.
Let the fools of foreign lands snicker in their corners and laugh about how we deserve it. Because when they find themselves in a bind, America and her people will donate faster and give more than even their own citizens ever could. And when they will bite the hand that feeds them and we will come back to give them seconds.
Because we are America, and being the land of the free allows us to be like that. We do what we do because it is right, just, and moral. If others cannot do the same, it doesn’t make us any less of a people.
