First: We have new neighbors. They seem real nice, have two kids close to Georgia’s age and have put a lot of work into remodeling their house (which was a complete shit hole inside when they bought it). My wife met the husband and one of the daughters. I’ve not met them personally, but they’re quick to wave if they see us. I’m not sure they’re completely moved in yet because many nights, nobody is at home.
Second: I view my house as my sanctuary. Nobody has the right to do anything to my house without my consent. I feel strongly that if anyone does anything to my house or breaks in, they die.
The problem: Florida Flash & Flicker struck today at noon. Our power blinked and caused everything to reset. It also caused their house alarm to go off. It’s still going off. It’s not going to stop until someone turns it off from the inside. If they don’t show up tonight, there is no way my wife or I could sleep as the alarm horn is literally 10 feet from our window.
My wife called the police to at least have them check out the property in case the alarm was real. But it wasn’t. And the cop said there was nothing they could do.
So, legally and libertarianally, is it permissible for me to dismantle the alarm horn if they do not show up this evening? I’d even just disconnect it’s connectors, not destroy it or damage it in any way.
And if I can’t get to the connectors, is it justifiable to shoot it?
Update:
Guess it’s a moot point. The horn is hidden inside the overhang of the roof. Can’t get to it without literally breaking into their house. Guess I just have to suck this one up and chalk it up in the ‘Life’s a bitch’ category.
