Sharp as a Marble

First: We have new neighbors. They seem real nice, have two kids close to Georgia’s age and have put a lot of work into remodeling their house (which was a complete shit hole inside when they bought it). My wife met the husband and one of the daughters. I’ve not met them personally, but they’re quick to wave if they see us. I’m not sure they’re completely moved in yet because many nights, nobody is at home.

Second: I view my house as my sanctuary. Nobody has the right to do anything to my house without my consent. I feel strongly that if anyone does anything to my house or breaks in, they die.

The problem: Florida Flash & Flicker struck today at noon. Our power blinked and caused everything to reset. It also caused their house alarm to go off. It’s still going off. It’s not going to stop until someone turns it off from the inside. If they don’t show up tonight, there is no way my wife or I could sleep as the alarm horn is literally 10 feet from our window.

My wife called the police to at least have them check out the property in case the alarm was real. But it wasn’t. And the cop said there was nothing they could do.

So, legally and libertarianally, is it permissible for me to dismantle the alarm horn if they do not show up this evening? I’d even just disconnect it’s connectors, not destroy it or damage it in any way.

And if I can’t get to the connectors, is it justifiable to shoot it?

Update:
Guess it’s a moot point. The horn is hidden inside the overhang of the roof. Can’t get to it without literally breaking into their house. Guess I just have to suck this one up and chalk it up in the ‘Life’s a bitch’ category.

Call the alarm company? Perhaps they can turn it off? Call the power company and have the power to their house cut? Put your still next to their house and have it mysterously explode?

Well, unfortunately their alarm isn't monitored, so I doubt they have anyone I could call. And if they did, I wouldn't know which company to ring.

Power can't be shut off since they do have a fridge and possibly other items that might need to be on.

And what? Waste booze? I think I should drink until the noise doesn't bother me anymore.

It's funny 'cuz in the office I can't hear it, mostly due to the fact it's pretty much the furthest point in the house away from the alarm and that the computers put off a little bit of white noise which helps disguise it.

But alas, the Mrs. isn't going to let me spend the night here.

Hmmm. It's a dilemma. I would say to give it until six thirty tonight. If it's still going off, write them a letter so that they know what's going on (or will, once they get said letter). Then, look on it as an opportunity to take your wife out for the evening.

If it's still blaring when you get back, libertarian principles aren't harmed if you have them cited for disturbing the peace.
