Sharp as a Marble

I usually don’t get to read too much in the blogosphere over the weekends. I have to spend some time with the family. This weekend was no exception as the Mrs. had a Woman’s Retreat to go to and I had daughter duty. Had fun taking her to the zoo and she was even pleasant when we had to go do a little shopping.

Mondays, I have to be very, very selective of what I read from over the weekend. This is why catchy titles and well written first paragraphs are so important for me. I have dozens upon dozens of blogs to read and only enough time for a handful of posts. I’ve got a few blogs marked as Must Reads that I usually spend a little more time going over, but for the majority I just mark as read and get on with my life.

Looks like I missed two major events. Well, maybe, maybe not. It’s the same story, just a different day.

Seemed some politician of Party A said something and Party B has their panties in a wad and wants nothing less than decapitation for said crime. Party A partisans defend their politician by calling Party B partisans poopy-heads. Party B partisans march in lock step to protect their end of the playing field. I can’t tell which party or partisans are which. There’s not much different in either these days.

Second event – Some media outlet failed to vet their information and printed something that doesn’t look like it happened. Some idiots read the story and decided that was all the info they needed to riot. People got hurt and even killed. Party B’ers are calling it bias in the media, attempting to make the current president look bad. Party A’ers are saying they don’t care if the event happened or not, that it’s the presidents fault anyway.

I’ve heard all this many times before. Party A and B are usually interchangeable. Meanwhile, here I sit in neither party watching the mud fly by like palm trees in a Florida hurricane.

Right after the election (or even a wee bit before), I noticed Party B start acting like what I didn’t like Party A for. Party B was still the best bet so I voted. Some feel that if you cast a vote for X (which is binary in nature – you vote for the whole, or not) that you agree with 100% of X. That’s like saying since I ordered the Strawberry Cream Pie that I have to eat the coconut sprinkles on top even though I hate coconut sprinkles. I mean, I did order the whole piece of pie, right?

Anyway, all I can see nowadays is mudslinging from both parties. I can’t even get worked up anymore over anything. Ted ‘One for the road’ Kennedy could literally stand up in front of the senate, drop his trousers, and take a big wet dump on a picture of W and I don’t think I would even expend the energy to raise an eyebrow. I’ve lost faith that anyone in any political position gives a rats ass about you or me. I think they’re there for the $ and that they’ll say whatever  it is they think will energize their base. Even more depressing is watching the minions jump to defend things they don’t even completely understand. I’m even guilty of this. Often. And every time I catch myself doing it, I get more depressed.

So, to both sides. STFU. Party A’ers will say ‘look, Party B has lost another’ and they’d be wrong. Both parties are actively pushing me away from their points of view and agendas. If Party C wasn’t full of friggin’ lunatics whose idea of liberty is free bongs in every house, maybe I could find comfort there, but alas, I’m lost and alone in a political wilderness.

Too bad you live in Florida. You could c'mon out and join the Coyote Democrats - a different kinda dog.

So, you wind up doing what I do: you vote the issues. When that fails, you vote for someone who seems to have a shred of integrity. And when people ask me about my political leanings, the word has a little "l" in front, not a capital one.

So many parties, so little time. If there's one thing we can all agree on, it's that our parties are disappointments. Whether your a Dem or a Repub. They look like mirror images of each other, both beholden to corporate interests.

And both stealing ideas from the other. Since when did Republicans stand for big government and big spending? Since when were the Democrats the party of States Rights?

It's enough to make one turn to the Libertarian or Green party, and decide on a life of futility and wasted votes.
