A few weeks ago I went in for another sleep study since my first one was inconclusive. Monday I went to the doctor to find out the results. Turns out, while I do apnea, it’s not enough to disturb my sleep. This was very depressing to me as I suffer constantly because I don’t get good sleep.
The doc did notice though that I have restless leg syndrome. I kick my legs at night and he noticed that every time I did, woke myself up. So he prescribed me gabapentin, an anti-convulsant, to try to keep me from doing so. So far in two days the results are looking good.
I’m tired. Sleepy tired, but in a way that is totally different than before. Coffee actually helps. What is more important is that my mind is awake. I am very alert and able to focus much better. When I wake up in the morning I don’t feel as if I just went to bed a few seconds earlier which is what it used to be like.
My God, I think I might have actually got quality sleep for once!
I don’t want to get my hopes up too high because it might just be a fluke or just psychosomatic. I doubt the latter because I wasn’t expecting it to work. I never noticed my legs giving me problems but my wife contends that I do wiggle my legs all the time.
And I don’t want to get my 5 readers’ hopes up too high either. Good sleep doesn’t necessarily translate into better blogging.
