I'm seriously thinking about cutting out 80% of my political blogroll. To be honest, I've grown weary of the idiocy that masks as politics these days (from both sides). And those blogs with comments either turn into echo chambers or vitriol-pits, neither of which further my knowledge of current events.
Some bloggers seem to be on a kind of high right now. Blogs are doing a fantastic job of 'watching the watchers' so to speak when it comes to the MSM, but I'm getting this feeling that many of them are starting to turn into the monsters they hate. The media has been and is being exposed for their lack of objectivity and how lying about it is affecting the news. That is wonderful and I'm excited to see the MSM change, be it by force or by choice.
But it seems many bloggers now are taking it as their sole purpose in life to 'take down the mighty MSM Goliath', which is annoying as hell. Yes the media is biased and yes it is important to air that out, but damn, folks....
The other burnout I'm feeling is that of stupid politicians. I'm tired of reading stories about congressmen / CNN executives / etc making wild accusations knowing damn well there are no facts nor evidence to back it up. I'm tired of the loony left having to resort to saying Bush had wild, drunken monkey sex with Gannon because they're out of ideas for their hatred. I'm tired of the right always assuming the Democratic party is dead and will never rise and that this means the only response is measured ridicule.
Nothings changed in the world, I'm just more aware of it, that's all.
I want to spend my time learning more about children's photography. I want to have free time to maybe read more books, spend more time with my daughter. What I fear is unattaching myself from a majority of the blogosphere will leave me less educated about events, but I wonder if the whole 'ignorance is bliss' thing has a better selling point?
Update:
I tend to use the term 'blogroll' as meaning the sites I read in my RSS aggregator. By no means am I thinking about delinking any of the fine sites to your right.
