I am a man on a mission. My mission is to build a kegerator system for my home brewing at a price so low I wouldn't be able to advertise it on the radio. Basically a kegerator is a fridge with taps to the keg(s) inside.
Now, you can buy these things for $500, but that would not only take all the fun out of it, it would also take a lot of cash that I'm sure the Mrs. wouldn't allow me to use.
The main parts are the kegs, the CO2 tank, various hoses, pressure gauge, tap, and fridge. You can get 5 gallon soda kegs (also called Cornelius kegs) for $20 a pop so that's not too bad. There are plenty of people who throw away old fridges as well as apartment complexes who want to get rid of their older models so I think I might be able to grab one of those for the low price of $0. I already have a few leads on that.
Next comes the harder part - the CO2 bottle. Granted you can get a new one for probably $70 and the gauges for $45, there's got to be a lot of wiggle room there to get my costs down. This is where I plan on doing the most amount of work to get the absolutely ridiculously cheapest parts I can find. I have 4 air tanks for my scuba gear. I wonder if I could use one of them.
Hoses - not much cost there. I can get most everything from the bargain bins at Home Despot.
That leaves the tap / pull itself. I'm willing to do a little scavenging and I bet I can find one that someone is simply going to toss. Lots of restaurants go out of business and I'm sure I can find something dirt cheap if not free.
If anyone has any of this gear they need to get rid of or knows where I might be able to pick some up, I'm all ears.
