What the hell is going on in the world today?
Oakland police halt DUI checkpoints
Immigrant activists say roadblocks discriminate against those without licenses
By Heather MacDonald, STAFF WRITER
OAKLAND -- Oakland police officers have stopped setting up roadblocks to check whether drivers are under the influence because of a rash of complaints from the Latino community and City Council President Ignacio De La Fuente.
The checkpoints, which allow officers to demand licenses and proof of insurance, are an effective way to get drunken drivers off Oakland's streets, city leaders agree. But the checks also have ensnared dozens of illegal immigrants who are not licensed to drive yet otherwise obey the law.
Excuse me while I scratch my head. Someone actually thinks that is a totally valid point? If I'm driving 120mph in a school zone, I shouldn't get arrested because I otherwise obey the law, right?
I am all for open borders. You want in? Fill out the paperwork, pay your taxes, pledge allegiance to the US and welcome to America. But until that time, if you're here illegally, your ass should be physically tossed across the border back into whatever shithole you came from, period.
How can anyone with 3 brain cells and a half functioning brain stem possibly think that it's better to let people drive under the influence rather than have to enforce the law with respect to illegal aliens? Hell, it gets worse. It seems people have worked themselves into a lather because you shouldn't impound people's cars if they don't have licenses.
It'll get to the point one day that it would be better to be an illegal alien rather than a law abiding citizen. Hell, the benefits are great and you don't have to worry about going to jail or paying for anything.
