An Army soldier has been murdered by his captors.

Iraqi militants killed an American soldier they have held hostage for nearly three months, saying the killing was because the U.S. government did not change its policy in Iraq, Al-Jazeera television reported Tuesday.

I don't know what the proper response is. The “warmonger” in me wants to level a town for every soldier or citizen killed by these thugs, but logic and my humanity tells me that is wrong. Some may say we should leave, but the cost in lives of doing so would be greater than we can imagine. We're in this for the long haul folks, let's not let Spc. Maupin die for nothing.

My prayers go out to Spc. Maupin's family. May he rest in peace.

Well Said. "I don't know what the proper response is. The “warmonger” in me wants to level a town for every soldier or citizen killed by these thugs, but logic and my humanity tells me that is wrong. I unfortunatly believe that our only good defense is going to be a HUGE offense. WE need to make it very unhealthy to be a militant.

Well, we could also make it very unpopular to be one as well which in countries that are a little more aggressive than us could mean the same thing.

I can't remember where I saw it today, but there was talk about a bazaar in Baghdad where the police pistol whipped a car thief. If a car thief gets the ass end of a pistol, those who are trying to take away freedom from the Iraqis will get worse.

The problem with that would be that the whole thing would be slower and we'd probably have many more Maupins, Bergs, and Johnsons on our hand. But are fewer, more atrocious acts better than massive casualties where the names of the soldiers are forgotten in a list? I don't know. It's hard because my perspective is here, safe in America and not the best to make those kinds of decisions.

Keith Maupin has been on my mind ever since the iitial videotape of him was broadcast. I actually had hope that we'd get him back. These are black days, but not as black as for those whose necks will be crushed by the boots of the U.S. Marines for their part in these vile killings.

I have to say...There has been no confirmation that he has been for sure killed. I live in Batavia ohio as well and everyone here is still holding out some small hope that he is alive but no confirmation has been given that it was him. Please continue to pray for the safe return....the odds aren't the best but if he is still alive he needs all the prayers we can give...

Well then Courtney, I shall say a prayer for him tonight. Dim as the light may be, it is still the light of hope.

The Batavia Overseas Post 1197, Veterans of Foreign Wars salutes a fallen hereo who paid the price for our freedom.
The Batavia Overseas Post 1197 salutes Keith Maupin who paid the ultimate sacrifice for the United States of America in it’s war against terrorism. His devotion to duty, courage, and patriotism which so well served our Country during time of war have also endeared Cory to those who share the common bond of service under the Flag of the United States of America; now therefore be it resolved, that The Batavia Overseas Post 1197, extend to the family and friends our deepest sympathy in the passing; offering them the consolations of knowing that their grief is shared by those who have been privileged to serve with Keith in peace as in war

Our family here in the Chicago suburbs will continue to pray for the return of Keith Maupin to his family-alive and well. I have not seen that there ever was not a positive ID made about his death. We are holding hope that he is indeed alive so that his family can be with him and have a future together. He served inorder that his family could live together in freedom and we have hopes that he will be able to enjoy that freedom!! We believe in the power of prayer--send your prayer now too!!

I continue to pray for Keith just as I have done since he was first reported captured. Until it is confirmed he was murdered, I will pray for his safe return and pray for his family. Whether he comes home alive or dead, he has served his country and we should all be proud of him. May God bless him and his family.

I haven't been able to forget the terrified look on Spc. Maupins face in the videotape in April. I began to pray every day, sometimes multiple times, for his safe return. I cannot explain what it was about him that led me to this new found spiritual outlook on life. I keep him and his family, his baby and his wife in my thoughts all the time. We're so proud of him, and so devastated that he may not make it home. God bless.

It has been awhile since the news of Keith's death. I have had his picture posted on top of my desk and a prayer candle lit constantly for this young man. I am not sure why he touched my heart. His sweet good looks, his young child, his wife, the fact he was close to my son's age? All I know is he stole my heart and my prayers went out for him constantly. I really beleived he was going to escape. May God be with his entire family during this time of grieving for a beautiful, strong, brave young man. May he be romping in heaven with Jesus.

We don't know if Matt is actually the person shown on the tapes. His remains have not been found. Keep praying that he hasn't been killed. We here in Clermont County have not given up hope!
