There is a cognitive dissonance that occurs when somebody of liberal/progressive beliefs does something that contradicts everything they believe. Instead of questioning their beliefs, they doubt the reality they just experienced, or deny it completely.

This is the problem we will have with getting people who are not open-minded conservative thinkers to accept guns into their lives, and accept our thoughts about firearms. Those who have beliefs antithetical to gun use and gun ownership will experience guns and then deny the experience, to keep their beliefs.

For example, you cannot experience the reality of Tokyo at the same time as you believe Godzilla is real and has destroyed Tokyo (once or several times, it matters not). If you visit Tokyo you'll spend all your time waiting for the roar of a 300' tall reptilian who breathes forth radioactive energy, due to cognitive dissonance.

As to guns, if you believe in the liberal/progressive ideology, and go to a range with a friend to learn about guns, you will spend your time trying to avoid a rage-filled killing spree by yourself or anyone else there. Cognitive dissonance, it is a problem.
