It's certainly got cost going for it over the likes of a mini-red dot sight.

Interesting concept, and I agree that it's good to see someone exercising some ingenuity like that, but I doubt it would be real-world practical for a defensive pistol - it's too bulky and seems like it would need frequent replacement due to breakage or distortion.
As a cheap/free system, it's not bad, but I'd rather save and invest the money in a laser or red dot sight that's more durable, more reliable, doesn't rely on ambient light, and provides a similar or superior "point shooting" ability.

Can I get one with glow-in-the-dark plastic for low light situations?

Ah yes, the American tradition of ingenuity and Entrepreneurial innovation.
Of course this is more in line with the PT Barnum part of the tradition than the Thomas Edison...

Okay, I'm sold.
I'm totally putting one on my .50 BMG. This way I'll totally have a CQB rifle that I can now point shoot with!
Instead of rails and a scope, I'll just use some velcro and hair curlers.
Even if it loses its' zero, it's easy to reset.

I actually like the idea of using the tube on the top of a small video camera, but he's still retarded.
