I read that column a few hours ago and all I could think was "what an A-hole." Is this guy applying the first rule of "how to be a successfull 'public intellectual'?" That rule is "say something incredibly controversial while hiding behind racism/sexism/classism so that the chat shows hire you to opine."

I think his argument is "FBDO is racist/sexist/classist for these obscure reasons that you don't understand. The fact that you don't understand proves that you are racist/sexist/classist, so you need me, the 'public intellectual' to explain the racism/sexism/classism inherent in the way you think and act.
