I actually bought one of these back when the uproar first started. I didn't buy it because of the capabilities of the round. I bought it because I believed that every one of these on the street would make the antis cry just a little bit more.

Fortunately, I found someone to buy it, because an $800 middle finger just wasn't as satisfying in the long run. Now I can finish converting that FN into a S&W 625JM. I love capitalism.

Or you could just buy a Kel-Tec in .22 Magnum. Similar ballistics, just as butt-ugly, and way cheaper than the FN (not to mention cost of ammo)

I really don't get why anyone would want to use what's basically a .22 for home defense.

Hey now, let's be fair... 5.7mm has got to be at LEAST a .23cal - but somehow the muzzle on that thing doesn't stare you down and inspire the fear of God like a .45ACP does...

... especially given how big the slide is around it.

It's ugly, the ammo is expensive, and I wouldn't choose to purchase one. However, it is right there on the list of guns I don't want to be shot with.

Seriously, it might not be a .45, but the sound of it in an enclosed place will probably make the intruder easy to identify. "Officer, he's about 6', 280, and he'll be stone deaf."

I can honestly say that I do know of a .25 round that would be dynamite as a home defense gun. The CZ52 or the TT33. Both fire a .25x28mm bottleneck cartridge that is hot enough to penetrate body armor that a .45 ACP cannot.

But that little thing in the picture would make a Hell of a blackjack, shortrange though.
