Saying something is racist is worst than BEING racist to a white racist.

"Otherness:" I've got your damn "otherness." I work in a business with no room for people who don't pull their own weight; it's profitable as can be but because of the way it works, we can't have any placeholders and you know what? I work with all kinds of folks, of every hue and background and we all get along. All of us got hired 'cos we are good at our jobs. If there's an "other," it's our competition up the street.
Do we always understand each other instantly? Oh hell no and so what -- if you don't follow what a co-worker says, if you;re not catchin' the context, you ask; maybe y'even learn something.
I don't know if anyone I work with shows up thinkin', "The x hate me," or even "I loathe x," but if eight+ hours of evidence to the contrary doesn't recalibrate 'em, nothing will. Geez-o-peet, I work with flaming liberals and guys so far to the right of the crew here it'd curdle one's hair; me (a gurrrl engineer, OMG) and my peers are the punchline to every ill-considered joke you ever heard and the one thing we all do, all day every day, is we look our co-workers in the eye and know they're as human as we are.
Blaming every paleface for racism is like blaming everyone darker than a grocery sack for crime. Are some white folks racists? Yeah, and some rob banks. Thinkin' they all do is, well, prejudiced.
Projecting one's internalized self-hate isn't the answer, Wildflower.

Not sure about the comments. I get a lot of BS and turn them off at intervals when I tire of dealing with racist people. They're on now.
Blacks don't blame everybody for racism. That's a straw man argument. Most majority members have no idea of what racism is since they've never experienced it from our society or ever have to worry about it in their lives.
As some have illustrated here, since racism doesn't exist in YOUR worlds, you proclaim it doesn't exist for anybody.
How nice for you.
So anybody who actually does experience racism and says so is automatically using the race card, especially if it makes you uncomfortable.
Since in your world racism doesn't exist.
Lucky you.
Lack of empathy, lack of compassion, self -satisfaction, willful ignorance, meanness and patronization, condemnation of others for something you never experience, did I mention self-satisfaction? All hallmarks of an awful person.
A racist person.
Just holding a mirror. Sorry, it enraged you that you took a glance. You seem to only tolerate talking amongst yourselves about the issue and making proclamations about things you have no idea about.
Just came over from that awful site, view from the porch, same thing.
Most blacks avoid such ignorant and insular, racist people, and would never comment at such a place. I should have looked at that site better before commenting--it's truly horrifying.
I will go on about my business, avoiding your sort of places, much to your preference I'm sure, sorry I disturbed you people.

My illustration is for people like you who ONLY see things in shades of racism. You know nothing else.
How do you possibly know how I see things or if the racism I see exists? I judge by what I see in writing.
I really hate how people claim they are not racist because so and so is in their family, they have a so and so friend, or they work with a so or so or was nice to a so and so twelve years ago. That's lame and makes us roll our eyes.
But tell it to my white stepfather and white (physician) boyfriend about how racist I am and how I continually whine about things that are racist when they aren't. Be SURE and tell it to my white relatives and especially my mother while you're at it. When they stop laughing in your face, they might tell you who I am. But probably not.
Traffic slow? It's because the WHITE man is keeping you from your job. Food not cooked right? Probably a white cracker who has it out for you. Humid with a chance of rain? WHITEY DON'T WANT ME TO ENJOY THE SUNSHINE.
Are you talking about yourself and how you view others? 'Cause you're not talking about me or are you talking about anybody black that I know. You do know lots and lots of blacks personally, right? You have intimate relationships with them to be able to say this with authority about me and all blacks?
I thought not.
You're a parody of yourself. The only hate around here comes from you. Over at Tam's, you're the one claiming she's a member of Stormfront.
I never said she was a member of Stormfront. What I said was she'd be comfortable there discussing race and so would some of her commenters. So would you for that matter. If you want to discuss blacks and race so badly, I think it's a great suggestion and you should discuss it with your philosophical counterparts. So you need the link?
You're the one in here calling me a white racist, even though you've never met me nor have you gotten it into your thick skull that my skin is most definitely not white.
Who cares? You don't have to be white to be a racist. Any race qualifies. My assumption was based on usually the racists-against-blacks I run across are white, but by no means is it a rule. My first marriage was to a Chinese guy and I lived in Asia for a time, so I know other folk can be quite racist.
What I KNOW is that you can't be a part of a despised minority such as being black in America or you would never have posted anything as racist against blacks as you did here, nor would you make the same racist assumptions.
You see, I'll say it again and type slowly for you - The people I hang out with, those that I gravitate towards, are rights supporters. We expect the same treatment to everyone regardless of skin color, gender, or any physical trait.
You can't do that. You're so wound up in playing victim that the only way you can justify your miserable existence is to come in here and claim we have no empathy and are hateful, mean people because you cannot fathom anyone being different from yourself. It's a cut and dried case of the pot calling the kettle black.
How do you know who I am? Why do you assume I don't support rights, and by that I assume you mean gun rights or personal liberty just because I can recognize racism against blacks when I see it?
You have made all sorts of assumptions about me just because I think you and some of your cohorts practice racism against blacks.
You're quite wrong, especially in the rights part and the victim part, but do you not pick and choose the personal liberties you decide to believe in? You definitely don't believe in the right for oppressed minority group members to speak up against the majority, or is that only when the majority includes you?

I've never said I wasn't racist. I'm real about that unlike the folks who're frothing here. Like most Americans, I'm certainly racist. It was also lame and racist to bring up connections and I knew it. But I did it anyway. That racist stuff can be gratifying sometimes.

What does an ordinary political difference have to do with the racist image at the top of this post? What does that have to do with the notion that anyone black who mentions racism is using some imaginary and heinous race card? While anybody NOT black knows what they're talking about when they make proclamations about racism?
That, I want to know.
This post is the same as if some men charged that women are always playing some bogus gender card and they should take off her shoes, get pregnant, and shut the frick up.
I'd dare say most ladies would say that was a tad sexist.
So how is racism never, ever, my Gawd no, not possibly going on here by us chickens, tell me again?

So, I should just g'wan and shy away, then, and to hell with most people bein' good and decent: because some people are bad, we should assume all people are, especially if they are paler of skin than ourselves?
Cop-out!
Y'know, I read your blog and it's fulla prejudice, how black folk would never, ever be welcome among white survival types (except as tokens) if SHTF cos Whitey is always and forever hatin', and I think to myself, BS; any person who has useful skills and is willing to work is welcome most places when times are tough and/or the work is hard. (Not all places; I'm not pretending there are no prejudiced people in this world but you are making it self-fulfilling with the "don't even try" line).
Look into the demographics of enlisted sailors in the US Navy in the Age of Sail, for instance.
Or ask yourself what happens to a group or culture that wastes skills and talent, or devalues them; I have always been amazed at the 18th/19th-century difference between the inventive New Englander and his Southern fellow-citizens, for one example. Care to guess what the distorting influence was? (Hint, the Romans and Greeks seem to have gone the same way for the same reason).

Your excuse for the image I said I found racially offensive? All us Negroes always call you racist when you criticize Obama.
And anybody black saying anything is racist short of a KKK member burning a cross on their ass is using the race card.
Do I have you right?
Newsflash: I'm not crazy about Obama myself and I know lots of nonracist folks who don't approve of what he does. We can even discuss our disappointment with Obama together! No charges of racism are ever made. I wonder why that is?
Guess what? It's because they're NOT racist! Duh. Is that so hard to believe? But it IS true!
But I do admit the reaction to Obama's presidency is unprecedented. I must defer to Abagond again if you want a reasoned view of how it looks from from another vantage point.
But of course you don't.
I think it will take a miracle for Obama to survive, but he had to know the risks of the job.

Roberta, yep, I think blacks have to face the manure hitting the fan in a different way...
What I said is blacks need to be careful. We have make sure we are valued as much as anybody else in the group--groups with people one has a long term relationship are best.
If any issues arise, race is not something we can discuss openly--or we will be accused of using the race card as Robb has said. Most blacks know discussing race with nonblacks is completely taboo unless intimacy is established and even then it's dicey.
You don't want those taboo and unresolvable issues coming up.

Y'know, I'm reminded that I have let my ACLU membership lapse... Anyhow, since I don't have a "Check This Box If You Are Of A Rich Dark Hue" spot for commenters, I'm not aware of the melanin breakdown of my regular readers, nor could I really care; it's just not a factor I use in judging people. I know that several have identified themsleves over the years as black or Asian or whatever if it was somehow germane to the discussion, but I can't remember who they were off the top of my head.
All this talk about race ON THE INTERNET of all places is silly in the extreme: In this medium, the only thing that matters is the words and the mind behind them, it doesn't matter if you're a German Shepherd using an ethernet-enabled Etch-A-Sketch in Kuala Lumpur; all that matters is what you say on that Etch-A-Sketch, yet some people want to drag neolithic remnants with them into the Information Age.

At a county fair on "Children's Day" we were surrounded by an angry mob and forced to leave the parking lot before we could even enter the fairgrounds. It was in a country that has a three-thousand-plus-year well documented history of institutionalized racism and skin-color differentiation that makes the U.S. experience look puny and pathetic. You may think you know everything about what racism is - until you're an Untouchable. For a Thousand years. And there are also those there who are beyond Untouchable. There are people will protest and say it doesn't exist anymore, that they have fixed it all and remedied all the problems in Legislation - yeh right. After a thousand years.
And most of them self-identify as Liberals, and go with "Progressive" ideas because they believe that reflects well on them - and that's really the most important thing. It's self idolatry, purely that.
