A thought just hit me. Everywhere you turn, even in generally pro-gun states, you’re seeing flurries of bills being submitted to violate the Second Amendment rights of Americans. Every time we get representatives to drop one, two more spring up in its place, forcing us gun owners to once again expend tremendous amounts of energy in fighting them.
It doesn’t cost the anti-gunners a damned thing to introduce bills. True, most of them will never see the light of day, but it’s the one you don’t expect that makes it through and makes your life a living hell. This is very much like how an inmate in a prison can harass the person who put them in there – they can file frivolous lawsuit after frivolous lawsuit against them. The inmate doesn’t pay a dime, but the target expends a lot of capital fighting them.
This is what is going on right now. They are trying to wear us out with so many horrific bills that what they really want will get passed when we’re too exhausted to fight any more.
What really gets my goat (besides chupacabras) is that I see plenty of pro-gun bills also being filed and seemingly not having any problems making their way through committees.
Like Sebastian, I fear that it doesn’t matter that millions upon millions of guns have been sold in the past few months or that the politicians realize 90%+ of people do not want a ban, they’re going to pass something anyway just like they did with Obamacare. But like Joe, I’m not sure these cretins understand the sheer scope of pissing off the populace is going to turn out.
Even when this winds down in a few months, we’re going to be in for a long war. They will continue to try later on when they think we’re not longer paying attention or they think the mood has changed.
Are you ready for the long haul in this battle?

But the main question is are those Politicians in the Various State Capitals and in DC in it for the Long Haul.
Keep in mind, if ONE Committee Chairman in the House lets one of those Bills get out on the Floor, I think there's enough RINOS out there that will jump on the chance to show much they "are willing to Compromise and Reach out Across the Aisle" and allow something to get to the Senate.
And even if it's Propagandized as "Mild," it'll be on BHO's Desk so fast you'd think Scotty Beamed it in!
Right now, it seems like a conspiracy theory to think that the Left is trying to push gun-owners into violence, even riots, to justify new restrictions and to turn public opinion. We'll see how it turns out.
They're making a hard push now because that's all they have. Once Sandy Hook is a distant memory (and long before pols start gearing up for the midterm election cycle), they have no more shot at this until the next major tragedy.
On a positive note, if you look at Bob Owen's recent entry about suppressors, it reminds me that the best defense is a good offense. Not only destroy their chances of any AWB/Mag restriction, but now put them on the defensive- make them defend the NFA/GCA/Hughes Amendment/etc.
NRA should take a cue from this and stop waiting for the next battle and take it back to them.
Btw, what happened to the preview button?
They will always have a few pet anti-gun representatives from super safe districts, but the anti-gun orgs at the state level have no money and no prospects for getting money. They have no membership, not volunteers, and no prayer. Keep the pressure on and they will crack from the strain.
We, on the other hand, have lots of people who are fully invested in carrying their guns, with more every day. Here in NC we're seeing growth rates of 20% per year in CHPs while the anti-gun group ran out of money and let go their Executive Director and both of their lobbyists.
Florida will be a special case because of the intense hatred the antis have for you guys leading the way. Plus Bush v. Gore. Keep fighting and enjoy their screams as they realize they have lost control of the culture. Anti-gun hippy tears are sweet and their screams are better than Beethoven.
In my recent e-mails to my congressional delegation (all Republicans; I'm a Kansan), the last paragraph has read "Consider 80 million gunowners, all, by definition, eighteen-years-old and able to vote, whose watchword has become 'GOP delenda est'."
Should the Republicans live down to expectations and assist the Democrats in passing any gun control legislation, I propose that it go out over the net that every letter, e-mail, blog post, comment to a blog post, or any other communication, especially, but not limited to, anything directed to a politician, end with the words "GOP delenda est!"
I freely place this concept into the public domain, and hope you will forward it wherever and to whomever you might deem it useful or appropriate.
Of course, we'll probably have to explain what "delenda est" means to the same bunch of knuckleheads that can't understand "molon labe" or "shall not be infringed".
