Nanny State

Many gun-banners are more than happy to blame gun manufacturers or those who sell firearms for the crimes committed by others. In their tiny little minds, they see no issues with blaming person X for the actions of person Y because they want to ban guns & know they cannot do it outright. So the plan to make manufacturing and selling so fraught with peril is a good thing for them. Suddenly, though, the very power they give to harass legitimate businesses ends us harassing legitimate...

Easy. Just pick any random topic and give them a few minutes. They’ll merge their pet topics into anything. Take the discussion on Gibson’s new guitar line made from the wood that was illegally confiscated. (The comments are Disqus which means they’re not in any particularly understandable order, so I can’t point you to any link in particular, but you’ll see the guy). Doesn’t matter that the post is about guitars, it’s about a company using the same wood as every other guitar manufacturer in...

Here’s a dirty little secret I hope my daughters do not learn while they live in my house. They can do whatever they want, whenever they want, and they can revoke my authority with a simple “no”. Think about it. I could tell them to go brush their teeth and they can say no. I can raise my voice. I can threaten to take away their toys. I can demand they not step foot outside to play with their friends. And they can still say ‘no’. I can offer corporal punishment, but they’re really at the age...

In the Marine Corps, I was an Aviation Electrician. My very first aircraft were the UH-1N “Huey” and the AH-1W Super Cobra attack helicopter. The Hueys were on my list mostly because the avionics were swappable, but only one of the squadrons I was in had them. I primarily worked on Cobras, and specifically, I was trained in fire control. No, that doesn’t mean I worked a Halon extinguisher – my job was basically “If you pull the trigger and it doesn’t go *boom*, fix it”. The Cobra had a triple...

To protect my family from this. Seriously. Watch this video, but keep anything sharp or shooty away because I’m lucky I was at work when I saw it, otherwise I’d have punched the monitor while screaming. Very little can get me riled up like this, but that’s a direct threat to my children. Claiming that they do not ‘belong’ to me or my wife comes with the implicit understanding that you can just come and pick them up at your leisure. My children are not property, but they are mine to raise as I...

An anonymous call is made that a mother is allowing her children to play outside unsupervised (*gasp!* THE HORROR!). Police show up, arrest the mother for child abandonment and sends her to jail… leaving the kids without a parent to supervise them. Honestly, I think that’s one of those times you thank Officer Friendly for showing up, grab your kids, walk inside and lock the door. Part of a cop’s job is to use that wet mass of neurons between his or her ears to determine if the call they...

This heartwarming story about Democrat Representative John Dingel crying about the pain and discomfort from his wadded up panties puts a smile on my face. the issue at hand is the Dish Network’s DVR has the ability to skip over commercials which means Dingbat and Co. might miss putting their 30 seconds of smoke & mirrors in front of Suzie Soccermom. At a Wednesday hearing on video distribution held by the Communications and Technology Subcommittee of the Energy and Commerce Committee,...

I’ve got great news! Even though the effects of Obamacare won’t be felt for another year or so, you can hop on the morally-righteous bandwagon today! You don’t have to wait for the tax man to take your money, you can just pull out the old credit card, waltz down to the local hospital / homeless shelter / battered women’s center and say “I would like to assuage my guilt and make a large donation.” If you’re like me and deal in cash, many of these places will gladly take that as well. If you’re...

Wife got her Wookie-suit on last night something fierce. The local library system has decided to pull all the copies of 50 Shades of Grey due to complaints and moral turpitude issues or whatnot, and while it wasn’t a book she wanted to read, she had an issue with what appeared to be censorship. It was good to see her Wookie-dander get all riled up even if it was just a bit misplaced. The library doesn’t carry every book under the sun. They make decisions to not carry books all the time, this...

When the fire is one of freedom, you want it to spread. NRA is alerting members on two bills proceeding in Pennsylvania. One is a bill to give some teeth to our preemption provision, HB1523, sponsored by Daryl Metcalfe. This bill does not go nearly as far as the Florida law, but at least puts the municipality on the hook for legal fees and damages. HB45 was an amazing piece of work. Illegal gun laws dropped off the books on their own accord and even Miami folded like a cheap lawn chair...

You think this is something new or unusual? Nope. This is just about a topic that you happen to be familiar with. If you fall into that camp, I want you to take a deep breath, step back, and examine all of the other issues in the past that you didn’t know jack squat about, but your knee...

I meant to get to this story last week, but like many things in my life, it got pushed aside and partially forgotten. Although cleared of shooting charges in a 2007 dispute at a Key Largo trailer resort, a Hialeah man still faces a felony count of carrying the handgun he used to defend himself. Why, pray tell, is this man facing felony charges for a right enumerated in the Constitution? Because he didn’t have a permission slip to do so. Jorge Correa, 44, must return for a November...

I’m not going to lie, full auto fire is fun. Burst is a blast as well. In this regard, the gov’t has won – I refuse to jump through the hoops needed to get any sort of NFA item, including cans or auto weaponry. Every time I think about getting a suppressor, I get frustrated at the crap I’d have to go through PLUS pay $600+ for a $20 part and, should I want another for a different firearm, I’d have to set up the entire dog and pony show yet again and give up. Toss in the fact that if I don’t set...

It’s almost a cliché in the gunnie circles that “The Second protects the First”. I’m a firm believer in the saying because there’s a lot of truth to it. Dr. Suzanna Gratia Hupp once said How a politician stands on the Second Amendment tells you how he or she views you as an individual… as a trustworthy and productive citizen, or as part of an unruly crowd that needs to be lorded over, controlled, supervised, and taken care of. Unfortunately, I think this goes well beyond politicians....

Bill Quick opines about the difficulty in retrieving some firearms of his from another state and bringing them back to California. One of the commenters mentions that technically, he could drive to IN, disassemble the firearms, store the parts in separate containers, and not even have a casing of ammo in the car and be within the laws. To which I replied, if we’re having to do all that to obtain weaponry, then it’s kind moot to get them anyway. This is why I fight against gun laws. I’m 100%...

So, I saw this auction for a few Class III lowers. Most had only one bid at around $21. As always, if it's too good to be true, it's too good to be true. Turns out, they're post '86, which means I am not allowed to own one. Think about it. This is just the lower, serialized and stamped in a way that makes it a 'machine gun'. Doesn't matter if you put a bolt action 50 BMG upper on it, it's considered a machine gun. And because that particular piece of aluminum was put into the registry after...

Went to the doctor's office this morning to have my neck looked at. It was hosed, and like I expected, I was given little pills of pure happiness and contentment muscle relaxers. At this moment I'm as high as a kite, but I have to admit if my back / neck hurts, I don't care enough to notice. Anyway, I stopped by Walgreens to fill my prescription for the wondrous, miracle euphoria pills and noticed that the entire parking lot was full of cops and news crews.
