Welcome to the Sharp As A Marble coverage of the Presidential Debates 2004. This will be the first of three debates. The first debate will revolve around Foreign Policy, the second will revolve around quantum physics and rodeo terms, the third has yet to be decided.A brief description of the stage. There are 2 lecterns on the stage, both having a set of lights on top borrowed from the Jeopardy set. When the lights blink, you're out of time. If they blink too long, a trap door will open up and...

I went in for a physical yesterday. Thankfully I've got a few more years before Doctor Jellyfinger says it's time to check my tonsils from the backside, but still, physicals suck. There's nothing like a man with cold hands grabbing your kiddie-hammock and saying cough. I mean, if had a hernia I think I'd know it before we had to get to the head turning point, dontcha think?Anyway, while I was there I had a few tiny warts frozen off of my elbow. The Cable Gods have smiled upon me.My cable modem decided it didn't want to do it's job anymore, and "Technical" Support (he said with a sneer) was no help at all. I called and the only answer was "You can either bring in the modem or wait for a support tech to come by". A new technology capable of storing the equivalent of 100 DVDs on a single DVD-size disc has been unveiled by researchers from London's Imperial College. The storage medium, called Multiplexed Optical Data Storage or MODS, was revealed at the Asia-Pacific Data Storage Conference 2004 in Taiwan on Monday by lecturer Peter Torok. The development team said MODS can potentially store up to one terabyte (1,000 gigabytes) of data on one standard-size disc--enough for 472 hours of film, or every...

I don't need Dayquil. I can do fine without it. No one cares if I blow my nose constantly during meetings or cough up a lung in the cafeteria.I can quit any time I want. Really.....I mean, I totally enjoy sinus pressure. Everyone should feel like two large Scandinavian wrestlers are competing for floor space behind their eyeballs. And tasting my food? Who needs it?

I made flan from scratch tonight (I actually had to make the sweetened condensed milk!). It turned out ok, but next time I'm just using condensed milk from a can. What caught my eye was one of the recipes online that called for 3 egg yolks (separated)3 egg whitesI wonder how many people read that recipe and wasted (ok, Nathan, "used". Happy now?) 6 eggs?

Me: What's wrong?Wife: I was in the office checking my boards and Georgia walks in with chewed up blue crayon all over her face, arms, hands and mouth. She ate about 1/4 of the crayon Me: Oh dear. You did snap a photo right? Wife: No I didn't take a photo I was too livid Damn. Nothing's funnier than photos of a small child chewing on a Royal Blue Crayola. Can't wait until "the diaper"!

Back in 1994, I decided to derail my goal of being a game programmer and start focusing on this little quirky thing called the Internet (hell, I was on AOL back then). I went and picked up as many books as I could find which wasn't that much back then as compared to now.And I studied. And I studied. And studied some more (in between classes I was taking).I landed a job as a graphic artist for a news publication. I eventually took over most of the webmaster responsibilities. When I quit, they...

Well, Frances didn't destroy my house so she went ahead and killed my power. We've been without electricity for 2 days now, that's why SaaM hasn't been around to tell you how fun the hurricane was. It's only been on for a little less than an hour so I have nothing cold to drink and no hot water for a bath. Oh well.....Lots of stuff to catch up on so I hope I have time to blog about it all. Stay tuned!

He didn't make it. I just buried him in our back yard. Hudson had a heart condition that was probably incurable and it finally claimed his life. He was the very first cat / animal I ever owned on my own and kept me company for 8 years. The vet described him as the most docile animal he'd seen in a long time and I'd have to agree. Hudson would put up with anything for a scratching or a belly rub. He also had the most interesting meow that was almost a stutter. My daughter's first word was...

(UPDATE(s) at bottom of post)Hudson has been rather icky the last two days, just laying around being very lethargic. He has kind of moaned when petted rather than purr. He's puked a lot and hasn't eaten anything which for him is very, very odd.The Mrs. is dropping him off at the vets right now to get some tests run. I'm praying it's nothing more than a cat-cold or something innocuous.Hudson has lost a lot of weight lately, but I've chalked it up to the fact that he hasn't had access to his food...

With Frances bearing down upon us so quickly after Charlie had his way, I have been thinking a lot lately on how we can deal with hurricanes.  I now know why the hurricanes always seem to hit us. Two words: Trailer Parks! The main thing I've realized is that God has something against trailer parks. Have you noticed how tornadoes and hurricanes always seem to go for the jugular at trailer parks? Armed with this knowledge, I made the following observations:Notice how the path of Frances has...

{click to enlarge}I love my daughter and I'm always more than happy to show her off. She turns 2 on the 11th (yes, she has a Sept. 11th birthday). I can't believe how fast the time is going by. I do, however, have around 2,700 images of her on my computer alone. This picture is currently my wallpaper at work.I hope her growing up having a photographer as a parent isn't as annoying as it was when I was growing up.
