This never happens Bonham Academy on St. Mary's Street. Teresa Barron, 38, had just dropped off her child at the school when the child's father showed up, and the two got into an argument. The child's father, 38-year-old Roberto Barron allegedly then stabbed the woman several times in the upper body and neck area. Police say a bystander who happened to be a concealed handgun license holder pulled his weapon and ordered Barron to drop the knife. Barron surrendered and was taken into custody by...

One place I refuse to debate anti-gun people in is Twitter. The problem is that it’s a terrible format for discussion enough as it is, but watching the anti’s try to argue in < 140 characters means their stupidity is condensed. Trust me folks, you don’t want to get that shit on you, it stains. Now, because of who I follow, I can’t help but get 1/2 the story from other arguments. I don’t see the entire conversation which makes following stuff hard (so I tend to just skip those) but sometimes...

By now, I’m sure you’ve heard about the deaf 3 year old named Hunter who is being forced to change the sign for his name because pointing fingers is the exact same as having a gun. I cannot express my anger over this. You may not know this about me but I used to be an interpreter for the hearing impaired. Back in the 90’s, I knew sign language well enough that it often surprised deaf people when they found out I was ‘hearing’. I worked with deaf children who were neglected by their parents...

I’m always keeping an eye open on my industry because things tend to go pear shaped fast. Yesterday, they had put up “Small business owners who support Obama” signs. Shan’t be ever applying there.

On my way to work, there are a few side streets I can take should the roads back up a bit. My detour takes me through some neighborhoods you’re more likely to see in old episodes of Cops than Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. A gentleman was walking his dog this morning, carrying an aluminum baseball bat. It was clear he wasn’t heading over to Jose Conseco’s house to practice and the way he was holding it at the low-ready indicated he intended to use it immediately if needed. As a bat, it was...

Pig still ain’t whistlin’, but we sure are trying to teach it. Alan Korwin has an excellent article on the failures of the media and gun control advocates to get anything done in regards to lowering crime through gun control. People seeking gun control, media included, understand the subject so poorly they are getting in the way of making any real progress. Gun control is not crime control. It doesn't have the desired effect. That's why gun owners and others resist it so fervently. If it would...

Several moons ago, I made a joke image about ‘Heater Magazine’; kind of a cross between Vogue and Guns & Ammo. I cannot tell you how many private conversations I’ve had about making that an online reality. With Heater Magazine, I was thinking of making a more tongue-in-cheek type website that both poked fun at the gun culture and celebrated it by showing we have thick enough skin to do so (plus, the drama llama would ensure hits beyond my wildest dreams). Plenty of people had said they’d...

I’m not ready to blame the police either in the NYC shooting. Look, NYC is a crowded place. Been there a few times on business trips, still cannot see how anyone would want to live practically standing on top of one another (food was good though). I can’t imagine any shooting downtown not having innocent people as the backstop. Life isn’t perfect and the criminals don’t always decided to stand with their back against a wall before opening fire. We still don’t know how many of the injured were...

We should be dead by Monday morning. Even though Isaac is turning west, the newsies are still breathlessly reporting it like it’s hitting Tampa square on. Each year we face several hurricanes, each year they’re death machines that are going to spell Armageddon to the Tampa bay area. I love how the models always show the path as heading toward land, back out to sea, and possibly the south pole all at the same time.

Caleb put up a pretty good post on ‘tactics vs. shooting skills’ and I found it to be timely as I found myself in a gun fight last night and realized how much different it was when there was a fear of getting shot. What made it worse was the fact that the gun fight involved my oldest daughter and these Nerf guns. Worse, because I realized how often I got ‘hit’ by a 10 year old girl with limited aiming skills using a toy that shoots a dart out at only a few feet per second. I also found myself...

In a comment on Facebook, I was called to the carpet as “a gun nut who worships guns”. I can’t argue that. I don’t really have a safe, it’s more of a shrine, and I treat the lanes at the range like a confessional. And of course, every night, I say my prayer John Moses Browning, who art in heavenHollowpoints be thy nameThy kingdom comeThy Will be doneIn full or semi-automaticGive us this day our daily rangeand forgive us our misses, as we aim for those who attack us, and lead us not into the...

Wilbur still can’t get through a full bar of Sweet Georgia Brown. Even though I complained that it’s damned near impossible to get simple concepts through to people, I found myself this evening arguing on Facebook with some less than stellar opponents. A friend of a friend commented that registration, 14 day waiting periods, and harsher penalties would be a good step. I called him out on it, and well…. still no porcine tunes. Here’s Fritz’s comment that deserves a little fisking Did you even...

So, I have some pretty basic guards in place to try to head off spam in the comments without requiring CAPTCHA, but it’s working overtime and not really catching most items. One of the easiest ones to do is simply counting links (or even attempted links) and if they meet a threshold, they’re marked as spam. Another easy one is to look at the IP’s they’re coming from and ban them. IPs aren’t the best way as they could end up blocking a legitimate user, but for now that’s what I’ve got. What I’m...

It’s frustrating trying to explain why “No Guns Allowed” signs are not only ineffective, but counterproductive to people who have differing first principles than you do. When you explain that the law abiding will disarm voluntarily but criminals and the crazies won’t they just don’t seem to comprehend why that’s a problem. You can expend hours on the topic and that pig’ll be no more closer to whistlin’ Dixie that it was the day before.

TMI
I love those dreams. Unfortunately, that’s not what I had last night. No, last night had me at the office, and somehow I had forgotten to not wear my gun. Not only that, the shirt I was wearing was too short, my holster somehow turned into an OWB type, and the muzzle kept peeking out. Now, everyone in the office knows I’m a gun guy, so naturally they were looking for it. Every time I tried to cover up, it’d fall out of the holster, or the snaps would come loose and hang lower, or any other...
