They recognize THEY are the first responders and are not only arming the teachers, but getting them training too.

The police are only a few feet away CBS 2′s Susanna Song reports the 27-year-old mother of three was stabbed in the left arm by her children’s father, only a few feet away from where Chicago police officers stood waiting on the front steps, thinking she was safe and out of harm’s way. Now, the point of this post isn’t to get onto the cops. The poop hit the air-flow device pretty quickly and I have a feeling they simply were in condition white and the sudden transition to black left them...

Cops will simply lock themselves in the next car until it’s safe to come out A man who was brutally stabbed by Brooklyn subway slasher Maksim Gelman two years ago had his negligence case against the city dismissed in court yesterday, despite the fact that two transit officers had locked themselves in a motorman's car only a few feet from him at the time of the attack. Emphasis mine. As Unix-Jedi said in the conversation we were having, if you lock yourself away while others are being...

I’ve been using RSS Bandit for years for my feed reader. The developers dropped it a while back, and it has started showing its age. It’s a desktop app, so if I want to read stuff elsewhere, I’m SOL. I never liked Google Reader or any other reader because they all seem to want to do things for you that I’m not interested in nor can I find one that allows me to organize my feeds the way I want to. For example, I like to flag posts to let me know that I’ve left a comment or that I need to go back...

To claim you must run away, turning you back on someone who wants to harm you, first before being allowed to defend yourself. “Stand Your Ground” simply means you do not need to roll over and expose your belly to your attacker. It does not give you carte blanche to murder someone and then walk away by simply claiming you felt threatened. There are hundreds of cases where people claim SYG and still get convicted when the proof is there that they did not act in self defense. Then there’s the...

No-Guns signs go up and come back down in less than a day After discussing it with legal counsel, the department posted signs outside the building Thursday stating, “Firearms and weapons are prohibited in this facility unless in the possession of an on-duty law enforcement officer.” The signs were up for one day until Florida Carry Inc., a gun rights group, contacted the Health Department and said it had received bad legal advice, Chapman said. The department discussed the issue with its...

I think Obama meant you and I would be transparent to the government, not the other way around. I’ve seen a report or two about the government demanding user passwords from some Internet service providers and / or services. These have been unconfirmed reports with a lot of “sources who requested to remain unnamed” (thankfully, those sources weren’t friends with someone who used to go to school with George Zimmerman or their name, address, SSN, and probably password list would be plastered all...

Lego He’s sitting in my lap right now, purring something fierce. Already, he’s familiar with the whole ‘litterbox’ thing and doesn’t mind his little ‘home’ which just happens to be the bathtub with a towel-lined* box, a ramekin of water, and a makeshift poop-sand container. *Ironically, the towel lining his box is the one the vet wrapped Bueller up in when I took him home for the last time.

For those role-players out there, the Monster Hunters International RPG and Employee Handbook is available. Never did D&D or anything as a kid, so I never got into role playing, so I’m going to miss out on this. But for those of you who do, well, I can only imagine this is all kinds of awesome.

Then I realized that instead of granting absolute authority to someone who just happened to win the mommy-daddy lottery, we grant a shit load of authority to a committee made up of the lowest common denominators in the fractions of life who then hire underlings to design that authority and do so in a way that we cannot vote away. At least you can behead a king.

While it is illegal to openly carry a gun unless you are fishing, hunting, or camping, it is a popular thing for older women and some men to walk around town loudly and visibly displaying a weapon. Sure, they’re repurposed broomsticks, golf clubs, or metal plumbing supplies, but as intent is non-transferable their original uses are no longer valid. A while back I wrote about a guy who I saw walk his dog in a rougher neighborhood with a golf club. It was mentioned that he may have been primarily...

The third of the three best things to ever happen to me happened Happy Birthday Irelyn! 8 years ago, I held that little bundle of joy in my arms for the first time. I still hold her in my arms as much as possible, but I have to compete for time with Legos, Taekwondo, guitars, Monster High dolls, and her Kindle Fire. *sigh* Both my girls are getting older. But I wanted to offer my readers the same request I made to the person who emailed me - I am not in this blogging / tweeting / activist business to simply spout off what I believe is right. I do it so that my beliefs can be openly challenged. I do not moderate my comments outside of some minor attempts to control spam. I do...

I agree with Kevin, there’s nothing right about this story at all. What I want to point out though is that here we have a prohibited person who the state was fully aware had guns and yet… nothing. This is because the push for gun control has nothing to do with taking the guns out of the hands of dangerous criminals, but rather controlling the populace. But gun control supporters will push that lie to their dying breath, then through a Ouija board later on.

Your gun sucks and you’re holding it wrong. That caliber is ineffective. You would do better to pick something bigger. That caliber is too big / expensive. You would do better with a smaller caliber that is cheaper and gives you higher capacity. I am not a lawyer, I have never argued a case, and in fact I tend to get confused when watching Matlock, but if you do not follow my legal advice to the T you will spend the rest of your life behind bars and that’s after you get the lethal injection...

Is that it’s easy to spot tyranny when the ‘right people’ get to break those laws Security officers at a federal building in downtown Detroit found a gun in the purse of Betty Petrenz, Conyers’ office manager. Bringing weapons into government buildings is strictly forbidden, but Petrenz received no sentence or formal punishment. Just a ticket, which will be stricken from her record if she demonstrates good behavior. Conyers is a strong advocate of stronger gun control laws who has received an...

A) I enjoyed it thoroughly. It was a fun and funny movie. B) I didn’t kill anyone even though I had a gun on me the whole time. Didn’t kill anyone in the restaurant later, nor on the drive home. Come to think about it, I’ve never even removed my gun in anger from its holster even though I’ve been told I’m just a psychopath, ready to snap at any moment.

This is what happens when you accept that begging for permission to exercise a right is acceptable. Granted, I’m a bit of a hypocrite on this as I have a permit as well, but I’m not sure how to fight it at an individual level. Time and time again it has been proven that people who seek out permits are the least likely to commit crimes. This is because these are people who, because the law says you need to do X, actually go through the hoops to do X because they are law abiding. Removing the...

One thing I noticed online is that on the 4th of July, people seem to remember a bit about freedom. From the places where fireworks are outlawed and people openly flaunt their disobedience, to remembrance of those who died for our freedoms, to the seemingly sudden onset of anti-authority found in many Facebook posts and Tweets. And, like the fireworks that light the sky up at night, it’s gone in a flash. We need 365 July 4ths in a row, in my opinion.

I’m pretty sure you’ve already heard about the TJIC incident, but just in case. Now, to be honest – I don’t have the details nor the facts regarding the whole case. TJIC is very outspoken and isn’t shy about saying what he thinks and this often involves his disdain for the police, so this instinctively feels ‘revenge’ like, but to be fair to my readers, I don’t know TJIC outside of the pixels he pushes through the Interweb Tubes so I cannot faithfully say this raid on his girlfriend’s domicile...

I drive this way all the time TAMPA, Fla. —  Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies have made an arrest in the fatal shooting of a man driving on Interstate 4. Fred Turner Jr., 47, called 911 to report someone following him on I-4 minutes before he was fatally shot Saturday afternoon. The incident happened around 3 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-4 at the I-75 overpass in Tampa, officials said. Turner said in the 911 call the driver had pulled up alongside him and flashed a handgun,...
