Fire is. But what disappoints me is that they don't mention two of the biggest mass murders in American history that were largely ignored by the national media because they did not advance the gun control agenda.  December of 1987 (96 murdered by Hector Escudero in Puerto Rico) and April 1990 (87 murdered by Julio Gonzalez in New York City). But because both were arson murderers, the mainstream media largely ignored these crimes. I’ve said that here repeatedly (and I was basing it on the...

If you’re reading this, you’re lucky. Either your DNS entry is cached or you’ve already received updates. You see, I’ve run DNS out of the House of the Rising Smolder for years now with nary a problem. Last week, I started getting intermittent outages which sometimes required rebooting the server, sometimes just required restarting the DNS service, sometimes required holding my head at the right angle. Today, I noticed the Reverse Lookup Zones were fubar. This was by complete accident as the...

That’s the worst error message given I *am* the SysAdmin. Sorry if I’ve been down for a while. My DNS’ reverse lookup zone corrupted and stopped working. Being that I haven’t touched DNS / networking things in years, I didn’t realize that was the issue. Dumb luck had me kill a host record and re-add it, which threw an error letting me know the PTR couldn’t be created, so that was my hint. Self hosting can be a PITA, that’s for sure.

Didn’t seem to miss much while I was away on vacation. The bits and pieces I did gather was that the anti’s blew their collective load over the Aurora shooting and… well, fizzled out pretty damned quick. Oh sure, they’re complaining we don’t ‘compromise’ by giving up everything while they do not, there have been gallons of ink spilled in long, drawn out soliloquies that basically dress up the turd-for-an-argument with flowery language, but they’re singing a song everyone is tired of hearing. But being that it is Silly Season, there were a bajillion “Vote For Me” signs on our trip from TN back to Flatland (who knew you had to elect the coroner?). Interesting thing – not a single sign did I see that was a Democrat. Oh, they may have been, but they didn’t advertise it. Republicans and conservatives, on the other hand, splashed it as large as they could and still leave enough room to read their names. Just thought that was interesting.

I don’t have a lot of time to read the news or whatnot while I’m on vacation, but one thing I’ve seen is that the arguments for gun control have not changed and have only become nothing more than a parrot stuck on a single note. I have seen a few Facebook friends engage in several ‘discussions’ and invariably, those who truly believe in the healing powers of magic crystals ability of guns to cause violence are practically useless to argue with. Just a few quick thoughts re: the Colorado theater shooting. Like every other event for the past decade, the media seems to focus on being First rather than being Right. You’ll notice I didn’t qualify the media with “Main Stream” or “Legacy”, or “Dinosaur”. All media. Blogs, Tweets, forums, even chat rooms. Heck, my wife and I were talking about it this morning.
