I admit I've been looking for the right opportunity to use this icon
And this is about as clear of an opportunity as I have. Our side has facts, statistics, and reality. Their side has I think perhaps the Brady folks need to remove some tags on their photos. Take a look at this Facebook picture, and hover over some of the pictures and look at the captions. Apparently some anti-gun folks believe gun owners are compensating for “a small wiener” and lack of getting “laid in high school?” Puhleeeeze. I guess we can assume anti-gun people were picked on or...

It's the sounds of billions of people shooting their way through National Parks today. Blood will run in the pine needles, Yogi Bear will be riddled full of holes while searching for picanick baskets, and Old Faithful will be used for target practice. At least, that's what some of the screeching from the anti-rights bigots sounds like. Update Apparently, it's a PSH holiday! Then that calls for one of these

Talking trash and selling it like treasure
I can't get to the link over at GunPundit, so I'm going to have to base my perception on what Murdoc has posted. This is a comment about Open Carry in Michigan bewise wrote: I think only police, FBI, CIA, and whoever has to deal with secret documents or big amount of money, should be armed, and no body else. The reason I say that is based on a personal experience in Europe. I could have killed someone who kept half of the money from my job that he liked a lot, but saying that he was...

Felons and guns
This story is sad. The Fail Boat set sail early in this one and touched many ports. Here's the short story. Dude pulls a burglary in 1990 and is convicted. Does his time. Gets married, settles down, has a kid. Someone breaks into his home so he calls police. Police come, he shows them around, even points them to his wife's .22 and .380 she owned before they met. He's now busted and back in jail. At 18, Luke Groves made a bad decision and ended up with a felony conviction. I don't know the...

It makes the same amount of sense as the vast majority of gun laws do
This Fail Blog post (and I don't know the veracity of it) is about as useful as pretty much every gun law out there A recently passed anticrime law requires criminals to give their victims 24 hours notice, either orally or in writing, and to explain the nature of the crime to be committed. The sad thing is that while I'd expect 99.999999% of humanity to see this as a joke of a concept, I've been repeatedly reminded that plenty of people can't logically comprehend why that wouldn't work....

When emotional hysterics aren't enough
Pull out a random number out of your ass and speak of it as a fact And owning a gun won't help you. In fact, according to the latest FBI statistics . just owning a gun can actually get you killed. Because, while 75% of cops who get shot in the line of duty get shot with their own gun, over 95% of civilians who get shot get shot with their own gun! Of course, there's no link to back that assertion up. Not a surprise. It's hard to hyperlink one's nether-regions.

When your own side is firmly against you? My earlier post had nothing to do with Sebastian directly. He just happened to, like clockwork, chime in about open carrying in his usual manner. You see, to Sebastian, everything is political and a PR stunt. There is a time and place to open carry, to exercise your rights, but so far, Sebastian has yet to find a single instance where he thinks it is OK to do so. And trust me, he believes his view on the matter is the final word. For example I am...

Flat Earthers and the gun control movement
I once saw a bumper sticker that derided religion by saying "The Bible was written by people who thought the Earth was flat". Now, I'm not here to defend the accuracy of the Bible nor the religion itself, but to bring up a point about believing in a flat planet. Algebra was invented by people who thought the world was flat, as was most of the basis for science as we know it today. And why shouldn't they have believed that? There was no proof at the time that the Earth was a sphere....

With the OMG LOADED WEAPONS IN PARKS DRUNK REDNECKS SHOOTING IT OUT OVER THE LAST SCHLITZ!!!!! craze going on in all the newspapers over the continent, there are two things that I've noticed. One, the complete inability of the authors to discern the difference between peaceful, law abiding citizens and murderers (that's par for the course), and apparently, regardless of where the paper is located, the commenters simply ripping them to shreds. Band camp or poor numbers
I'm wondering what the issue is. Seems like now that school has started, The Brady Campaign To Shit All Over Your Rights seems to be fairly quiet on the blog front. Just last month, a professional firearms instructor couldn't accidentally get hammer bite from his 1911 without the Brady's crying about how dangerous guns are, but now I see plenty of stories of children getting hurt and yet not one peep from them. This means one of two things. One, the middle schooler they hired to blog for them...

People unclear of the concept - Coroner Jacques Ramsay said in his report that the weapon used by Gill, a short-barrelled Beretta CX4 Storm rifle, should be banned. Gill obtained the gun legally before his rampage. The Beretta CX4 fires 9mm, .40, or .45ACP. By banning that one rifle, you assure yourself that no other platform can fire those cartridges!!! This is very disturbing. Apparently, guns are not illegal enough in jolly 'ol England The variety of weapons on offer in Britain is extensive and includes machine guns and shotguns, as well as pistols and converted replicas. A source close to the trade in illegal weapons contacted by the Guardian listed a menu of firearms that are available on the streets of the capital. I guess the sixties weren't very good to him
I wonder if this guy gets paid by the "scare quotes" Just in February, another shooting on a college campus leaves three dead including the shooter; bullets riddle a city council meeting leaving six dead; five women shot to death in a retail shop as an apparent robbery goes bad and to top it off, we have a Presidential Candidate who says that the “second amendment” is as important then the “first amendment.” Without the second, you cannot secure the first. In fact, the entire constitution...

I guess we can skip that whole separation of church and state thing
Churches in Minnesota win another round on gun ban Court of Appeals: Churches can lawfully ban guns from their premises. Court agrees to exempt religious institutions from the 2005 law. In another victory for churches wanting to ban guns from their premises, the state Court of Appeals issued a 32-page decision Tuesday agreeing with the district court that religious institutions are exempt from the so-called Minnesota Citizens' Personal Protection Act of 2005. Exempt. Meaning they're better or...

I don't want to sound alarmist or anything
But are you aware of the sheer number of unlicensed food preparation facilities in the US? Every day, hundreds of millions of "back door restaurants" prepare and serve food without any governmental oversight!! Think about it! Your children eat at places that have no regulations on cleanliness, no standards on food preparation or handling, no available documentation of nutritional content and questionable sanitation practices. I hear some of these places even use transfats! I say it's time to...

No, what really defies common sense
Is how the "media" can continue to spout lies without bothering to fact check them “It defies common sense that a loophole in federal law lets unlicensed dealers sell firearms at gun shows without running a background check on the buyer. Our legislation would require background checks for every gun purchased at every gun show across America,” Lautenberg said in a statement. "Unlicensed dealers". That's like saying "unlicensed cooks". More PSH from the AJC
When I read articles like this, I get tired. It reminds me how much work lays ahead of us rights activists in educating the populace regarding the truth about gun control. The hardest mountain is that I'm not on the editorial board of a major newspaper so I can't present my opinion as facts to the public. Instead, I have to network with as many people as I can in hopes of getting a few readers here and calmly, accurately, and thoroughly show how people like Maureen Downey are wrong. Ms. Downey...

Celery fisking
Uncle points to the greatest concentration of misinformation ever contained within a written article. Fisking this article would be like eating celery. It requires more energy to chew it up than you get from digestion - i.e. a losing proposition. But let's take a little stab at it, shall we? First, it is true that the assault weapons banned under the federal law that lapsed in 2004 were, like many hunting rifles, semi-automatic that is, firing a bullet with each pull of the trigger (fully...

It's okay to ban handguns as long as rifles and shotguns are permitted. The D.C. Circuit, for good reason, called that argument "frivolous." After all, D.C. does not ban home possession of knives or hatchets. Does that justify the city's handgun ban? As we are constantly told, guns are dangerous items that cannot be entrusted to the common man. Too many people get hurt via firearms to allow unfettered access to them. Sound impossible? It's not. We can both stop the spread of AIDS (to a fairly controllable degree) and put an end to gun violence and the spread of firearms using the same logic. First, let's talk about the guns. There are too many guns in the world, we are told. To put an end to the gun violence plaguing our communities, all we need to do is restrict their sales and have people turn in their firearms. Once the guns are off the streets, gun violence (and by extension, all violence) will lower to...

Head scratching moment of the day
One would think it was a rather simple concept The poll suggests many Canadians aren't sure about an outright handgun ban because there's a belief that criminals don't really care if handguns are legal or illegal anyway, Worden said. What? Some people believe that criminals might not follow the law yet 55% of those same people think banning guns is a good idea? What kind of fantasy land must you live in to have that even remotely make sense? "Oh, it won't work, but let's do it anyway!"

Microstamping - A clear cut case of failure of imagination
Paul is all gushy about installing a de-facto gun registry under the guise of "microstamping". He, of course, heads off any debate by declaring Gun lobby criticisms of microstamping sound quite familiar. About this advancement in forensic science they say that “it costs too much,” or “criminals will get around it,” or “only honest gun owners will be penalized,” or – you guessed it – “it’s a ban on guns.” We’ve heard it all before, and like before, it’s all nonsense. Actually, Paul, the...

The only thing we have to fear
Are drawings of things that resemble guns themselves. Chandler boy suspended for sketching gun An East Valley eighth-grader was suspended this week after he turned in homework with a sketch that school officials said resembled a gun and posed a threat to his classmates. ... Payne Junior High officials did not allow the Tribune to view the drawing. The Mostellers said the drawing did not depict blood, injuries, bullets or any human targets. They said it was just a drawing that resembled a gun....

They're like vampires
Only instead of sucking blood, they want to suck away your rights. But like vampires, the gun control enthusiasts fear sunlight and their own reflections. Notice how the Brady Bunch doesn't allow comments on their blog. Notice how Robyn Ringler has to moderate the comments and doesn't allow dissent. And take my latest addition to my commenters, Alex who "loves his daughter more than you love your gun". His blog doesn't allow comments either. Yet he likes to come here and blather on about how us...

Making pretzels jealous
Oh, the logical knots the anti-gunners tie themselves into. Check out this Einstein level post The Newark shooting is just one more tragic example of the carnage caused with illegal guns. The shooters were legally prohibited from having guns, but found a way to get them nonetheless. How? The gun lobby will tell you criminals will always find a way, and the best we can do is lock up perpetrators after-the-fact. But Gov. Corzine knows that by giving law enforcement the tools they need to answer...

If you can't beat 'em, delete em! (Updated)
Seems like Ms. Robyn Ringler* is deleting my comments on her blog posts. When I brought it up that my comments seemed to have been deleted, it got deleted. It's a shame that gun control advocates can't play fair. They have to resort to lies, deception, fear-mongering, and controlling the narrative in order to push their agenda, which deep in their hearts they know to be wrong and foolhardy, but in their desire to do something, nay anything, they lash out against the one thing they have minimal...

Blind to the nose on their own faces
Gun control enthusiasts scare me. They are religious fanatics who, even while their pants are on fire, will deny the very existence of flames. Coming from the Brady Campaign or the VPC, I can understand this approach. It helps them whip the faithful into a religious fervor and donate money. But when I see average people completely ignore the facts laid out in front of them, I can't figure out what drives them. Take this for example. Here's a classic PSH article from Robyn Ringer where she...

Next you'll be telling me dog bites man
Robyn Ringler discovers that humans make mistakes. So apparently that's a good enough reason to make more gun laws and restrict our liberty. Thank God for people like Robyn who actually enjoy micromanaging everyone else's lives or else this world could be dangerous!

I have a feeling
That every link to "Where did the gun come from?" is going to require this. No. of legal gun owners in decline; no. of shooting victims on the rise I don't know what bothers me the most. The fact that they can't even realize, through their own headline, that limiting gun ownership has no effect on crime Or That they think in order to be a "legal gun owner" requires the government know you have firearms and that you have registered them (and that they propagate this lie so blatantly) "Legal...

California plans on increasing the sales of files
Yeah, this is going to work. LOS ANGELES (AP) - Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and top police brass have endorsed a bill that would make California the first state to require gun manufacturers to install a mechanism that would help investigators track down criminals. The bill would require all new semiautomatic handguns sold in California starting in 2010 to be equipped with "microstamping" technology. Such guns would microscopically etch their serial number, make and model on fired...

Then why call it "gun control"?
Mr. Reasoned Discourse posts a tid-bit from the top bint herself The fact is that this debate isn’t about guns at all. It’s about how we as a society relate to guns. It’s about how we buy them, sell them, store them, and use them. This makes no sense at all. It has nothing to do with guns, but then goes on to list 5 different things regarding guns? If it has nothing to do with guns, why continue to label it as gun violence, gun laws, or gun {whatever}? When we talk about gun control, what...

A simple answer
Laura Washington asks, "Why aren't others joining the call for gun control?" Where are our elected officials? Where are our presidential wannabes? During the last presidential election cycle, the Democrats shamelessly pandered to the deer hunters of Pennsylvania and Northern Michigan. Gun control has rarely been mentioned during the interminable slew of debates in the run-up to the 2008 presidential election. It should be a signature issue. They aren't talking about it because it's...

Journalists. Is there anything they can't screw up?
See anything wrong with this article from the Times Online UK? Such a tragedy prompted new calls for increased arms controls from presidential candidates, among them Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama; the issue also enjoys bi-partisan support. Nancy Pelosi, the Republican speaker of the House of Representatives, is an outspoken anti-firearm campaigner, insisting that US gun manufacturers and retailers be held responsible in law for gun misuse. I guess when there isn't bipartisan support and you...

A new blog to haunt
Sebastian has pointed out a new gun control blog run by Brian Miller. For the interim, Brian is allowing comments, and like the other gun control boards, I strongly suggest you head over and let him know what you think. I am (SaaM), but I have a request for the rest of you. Let's try to keep our comments as civil as possible and avoid snark when we can. Remember that other people will read this who are not of the same mindset we are and insulting the host or his supporters (although he has less...

No one ever accused Paul Helmke of being bright
Hey Paul, you might shut down comments, but we can still link to your posts. Not only that, but Google searches against your stories will also bring up blogs that link to them. And for every blog post you put up, many of us rights activists will put up our own and counter your arguments with facts that we can back up. The only people you're going to be talking to now are those who believe your lies anyway. Shutting down debate will only alienate those who might otherwise take your side. Your...

Top 10 upcoming changes to the Brady Campaign Blog
So it seems Paul Helmke, tired of watching his efforts demolished by truth and fact, is planning on making some changes to the way the Brady Campaign's blog works. Now, it's all very hush hush right now, but since us rights activists are so helpful in pointing out the errors in Paul's posts, I thought I'd chip in and guess at a few of the changes being made Powered by Google search technology, every instance of the word gun will be replaced with something more gentle, like puppy, flower, or...

Judge for yourself
I continue to believe that the best source of information regarding gun control and its follies remains The Brady Campaign Blog itself. Paul Helmke picks a single bad apple and declares the whole forest rotten in his inaptly titled "Reasoned Discourse". Paul is claiming that a single, tasteless fax illustrates how depraved us gun nuts (as they call us) are and why they can't have a reasonable discussion on the merits of gun control. Now, please, if you're on the fence about gun control, please...

Well, now I've gone and pissed her off
Apparently, Kelli~ the world's most ineffective sock-puppet doesn't like me much. Anytime I can ruffle the feathers of an anti-gun person it brings sunshine into my life. Kelli~ is right though, I don't care about her safety. That's her job and I don't need to spend any amount of my day concerning myself about it. Unlike her, though, I won't try to stop her from doing whatever she feels is adequate for her own safety. Update - Now I disgust her! I swear, she's a mole for our side. Even the...

Paul Helmke prefers you not correct his lies (UPDATED)
The Brady Bunch decided to have a blog. And for the few posts they had comments on, there were hundreds of pro-gun bloggers who would comment and totally destroy Mr. Helmke's already-shaky reputation. After reading Say Uncle's thorough evisceration of Mr. Helmke regarding his latest post*, I ventured over to see how the commenters were reacting. Seems you have to be the "right kind" of commenter and register. I'd register, but I'm not sure I want to be associated with them. I'd be willing to...
