A great idea or sheer insanity?

A lever action styled like an AR.

For some reason, that tickles my GOTTA HAVE THAT bone.

I get that's a regulartory hack, for places like the UK were semi-auto centerfire rifles are banned.

Aside from the novelty, why not get a nice lever gun in the first place?

Besides furniture, I can't imagine many commodity AR parts being compatible.

I talked to the folks at Mossberg about it - it's part of their Zombie line, if that tells you anything.

The one thing I can say is that the .22lr version, the collapsible stock is good for custom-fitting the gun to a smaller shooter, like a child learning to shoot.

Which upon reflection would need either a ridiculously long lever system, one that was spring assisted in both opening and closing(and wouldn't that be a bitch to design), or brute strength to operate.

I'll admit they DO look neat, but...I already have an AR, and I already have a lever-action .357 that I LOVE. If I was going to spend any more money on a lever-action it would be a Browning LAR in .243 or .25-06 for a dedicated deer gun.

I'm not gonna say I would never buy one of those neat looking mossberg's, but it's down at about 10 or 11 on my 'Want One Just Because it is Neat' list.
