Or is this a facepalm moment?

The anti’s truly believe that, had guns not been allowed in National Parks, the shooting in Mt. Rainier would not have happened. You see, crazy people do not care about taking human lives nor are they concerned with any punishment for their actions, unless of course that punishment revolves around getting busted for carrying a gun. Then they’re all like “Whoa! The death penalty for murder I can deal with, but 5 extra years for carrying a gun across an imaginary line? I can’t live with that on my conscious!”

It’s a fallacy that the anti’s repeat so many times it’s become a religious edict – Gun nuts oppose any gun law because they want crazy people to have firearms. We all know this isn’t true. I oppose most gun laws because people who aren’t going to follow the laws regarding murder, robbery, and assault are not going to be deterred by some sort of procedural issue about how and where they carried a particular type of firearm.

If you believe laws against carrying a firearm in a National Park would have prevented this tragedy, you’re delusional. Crazy people are crazy. Criminals aren’t going to follow the laws to begin with. The only people who are affected by such nonsense are those who are never going to be a problem anyway.

I think that in order to understand them, you need to look at things from their perspective. They believe that criminals are just like the rest of us, but have simply been pushed into making a rash decision. If guns are removed from the equation, then the person will not have the opportunity to act before they come to their senses.

This is where the nonsense about waiting periods, victim disarmament zones, and virtually every other law comes from- even why they are so soft on convicted criminals. In their eyes, everyone is a potential criminal, all we need is a moment of lost self control.

You're absolutely right. They think criminal acts are a mental disease, or some kind of temporary insanity. They also refuse to acknowledge that some people are just evil, that some people just don't care about others.

Speaking of the former, it's pretty rare for people to just snap and lose control out of the blue. Self control is taught by yourself, you had a choice in whether you learned to control your emotions or not. It's not that we don't get annoyed when other people do rude things like steal a parking space, we just learned to not let ourselves get emotional and freak out about it.

Those people are not like us, and it's usually their fault for not learning to control themselves, not some outside influence.

As I said over at Miguel's there was a Protection Order (restraining order) against him.

That makes him prohibited under Lautenberg yet it did nothing to stop this incident. Facepalm moment indeed. I'll write something up tonight with all the links. There was actually two shootings too by the way.

@RWC I laugh at the people who say that gun owners are ignorant hicks. People from the north (Especially NYC) think that of everyone in the south.

I am a southern gun enthusiast, and I have 2 AS degrees, an AA, and a BS. I am also in school to get my MS and begin my second career, but because I choose to own guns, I am to be considered an uneducated cretin. Maybe because my education is in fields that have relevance, and not in subjects like "Women's Studies" or some other useless field.

Well yea, people like Mr. Weingarten exist in this world. He has never been in a situation where he needed a firearm, and he is too short sighted to be able to see the world from the point of view of someone who has. He speaks of shooting coyotes for meat as if it's a thing of the past without considering for a minute that those self same coyotes still roam the countryside threatening the livestock that poor farmers rely upon to feed their families. But then, to people like Mr. Weingarten, the lives of those poor farmers aren't worth enough to matter.

Such a person makes me sick.
