But hey, that's a lot better than last time!

At 12:16pm the Virginia State Police responded to the shooting of a police officer on the Virginia Tech Campus.

Just before 12:30 pm VT Police were notified by a witness that one of their police officers had been shot on campus. VT police officers were dispatched to the scene of the shooting at that time.

At 12:36 pm, VT Police dispatchers finally issued its first alert which went out by text messages, e-mail, Twitter, and the university public address system.

For at least 22 minutes students were blissfully unaware that they were in potential mortal danger and had no effective method of self defense. For hours after the alert, students did as instructed, they defenselessly cowered in classrooms praying that they weren’t next on a murder’s agenda.

Amazing how many guns seem to make it into Gun Free Zones. Sadly, those guns tend to be in the hands of the very people the Gun Free Zones are supposed to stop. It’s time to push heavily to allow adults to protect themselves everywhere, even if that happens to be a school campus.

What sickens me is the news conference after wards, where that AssHat University President Steiger bragged about how well their New Alert System Worked. THEN he went on about "Gun Violence" and other MAIG Crap. I believe this is the same jerk who was running Va. Tech during the last shooting, also.
One can hope that the Va. State Legislature grows some Balls and puts an end to this Nonsense.

I have to disagree. Gun Free Zones are not there to stop those bent upon violence from having a gun in a particular area. They are there to stop honest, law abiding citizens from having the means to protect themselves.

Look, if Mr. Armed Badguy were to walk onto campus in an attempt to kill people at random, only to be stopped in a hail of rightous gunfire from law abiding citizens, the antis wouldn't have yet another incident of "Gun Violence" to hang their hats upon. People would too easily see through their bs in such a situation.

This is yet another case of a Gun Free Zone serving it's purpose to provide blood for the happy dancing feet of the anti.

Wait, they were responding 14 minutes before they were notified?

Bull****. First of all, his math doesn't even add up (14+6=20, not 22). I'd like to know where that (unsourced) 14 minute delay came from, because it doesn't square with any other reports I've read, or the radio traffic I heard when it happened.

The ~6 minute time does square with what I heard on the radio. When you consider what has to happen between "someone calling it in and that actual alert going out, that's pretty reasonable.

Okay, that makes sense, assuming he missed the obvious contradiction (not trying to be sarcastic there, everybody does something similar on occasion). Still, it's one reason linking to sources is always a good idea. Some sort of correction would be nice, though.

After some discussion in his comments, he's standing by the 22 minute claim.

It looks like he’s basing it off of what appears to be a misstatement by a Va State Police representative at the press conference held just after they gave the all-clear. The time he states for when the state police responded is actually the time that Officer Crouse called in the traffic stop. The VTPD rep at that same conference stated that the dispatcher had communicated with Crouse at least once during the stop to check his status before losing contact. Most likely, the Trooper at the press conference simply read the wrong time from his notes (which you can see he was constantly glancing down at while he was speaking).

His blog is the only source I can find making that claim, except for a forum and some other blogs that are linking to him as the source. I have not found a single other source that supports his the 22 minute claim.
